griss' Tank Upgrade Thread

our forecast is very dry all the sudden which I'm very happy about lol. Although in a couple weeks we head down to costa rica for a bit and I'm a little nervous we'll finally get our snowfall when we aren't home...

Made some framing progress today. To finish off the PITA wall, I just need to frame the “closet” around the breaker box. Got 8’ on the “easy” wall to water main where I’ll frame around it a bit and put in an access panel.

Also, received 2 of the Euroquatics A1 LEDs last night. I’ve played with them in manual mode and am very impressed. So, I ordered a couple more and will have 5 of them for the upgrade.

I need a T10 Torx to replace the battery and realized I don’t have a Torx that small so, a trip to the hardware store is in order.

This power supply / battery backup is hung on a joist. I need to move it, so I was looking at it. It’s plugged into an electrical outlet but, the only cord coming out of it isn’t attracted to anything?

We do have AT&T internet, DirecTV (AT&T) satellite and used to have an AT&T landline. This thing has been in that location for a long time.

We’ve had AT&T techs out numerous times over the years but, they’ve never mentioned this thing not being needed. I can’t imagine I need to keep it since it’s not connected to anything.

Any ideas what it’s for?

That seems to be a power supply for an obsolete ATT Gateway/modem.
2-Wire Power Cord and Power Supply to replace lost or damaged cords. Designed to work with Gateway Models 3600/3800/3801.
Probably for an ADSL modem.

Thanks Ned, so it should

So, it should be safe to remove?

Yes. It is not powering anything. It is just stealing electricity. Just a tiny bit. I have no idea if you need it. Meaning it should have been moved when equipment was relocated or upgraded.
or removed
It says it is a power supply so I assume whatever it powered would be dead with it unhooked and you would have noticed and had them come fix it.

We used to ask where is the power doohickey. The people would say "I have no idea".
So we would just put a new one in and go on to the next job.

Made some progress on the basement today. I think I’m still in the lead with the longest (from start date to finish date) for a build🤣. Next weekend, I should finish framing. Then electric, drywall, baseboards, painting and flooring.

In anticipation, I listed the scratched up 120 on FB for $100 OBO. And got a guy offer $75 to get it next weekend. I told him if he could pick up today, I’d take $50. He said he’d see if he could get help.

In the mean time, my friend Andy, my son and his friend went and picked this up. ProClear ProStar V2 200 Rimless (150 gallon) tank, stand and sump. The seller also threw in 2 boxes of IO salt and 2 boxes of additives, chemicals and test kits.

As we were unloading the 150 from Andy’s truck, the buyer of the 120 said he could be at my house in 30 minutes. So, I had the crew to help quickly get the 120 out.

I love the dimensions of this tank: 60”x26”x24”. Lots for real estate for aquascaping.

Oh, it also included a Hydros X3 and XP8. Now, do I stick with Apex or move over to Hydros????

Don't you just "love it when a plan comes together"?
If you want more things controlled my choice would be the Hydros.
Neptune's newer things don't hold up as well as the old.
Hell my Aquacontroller II still works on all cylinders since 9/01.

Not sure how to answer this. Hydros does everything I want it to. I have no idea what you want to do with it. I have only used Hydros. I can say I have a 3 unit collective and a single unit on my 75 FW. They have been as reliable as a hammer.
HYDROS Control - HYDROS
Perhaps scan this looking at the input and output sections. Also maybe look at schedules.
I have done many firmware upgrades. I even had a problem quickly resolved by email directly with Carlos. He trusted me enough to take one apart and reseat a memory card. Put it back together and test it. They can log into it and look at what it is doing. I had a skimmer water level sensor that failed randomly. They sent me a new one free.

Hydros has impressed the heck out of me. I have never felt like it was lacking in any way.

My friend @Markk96 is a huge Hydros fan and is doing his best to convince me to switch. I’m a dinosaur and resistant to change. But, everything he’s saying and what you’re saying has me leaning Hydros.

I studied industrial programmable logic controls in college. That is all Apex and Hydros are. I think the Hydros has shined as a consumer grade device.
I have not had any failures in the environment of the fish room at all either.

Thanks Ned. You know I value your opinion so you chiming in means a lot to me.
