Have you ever been badly stung by your anemone?

Ok thank you so much. I cleaned the water but don't know exactly what antibiotics to use they gave me

but when I woke up my Longnose butterfly was dead and I'm assuming it was the medication and also 3 of my snails. They passed after I poured in the recommended dosage for my tank. Unfortunately I don't have a recovery tank

With clown anemones and condy anemones, i have only had rash like stings on wrists and forearms- which were no issue. Generally they pass within a day. There have been a couple times that I have rubbed my eye after handling nems and that really burns! But that passed in seconds if not minutes. I have no allergies to bees, scorpions or the like though- and have been bitten by a few venomous snakes over the years without issue. Lucky I am 4 blocks from the ER! But seriously, whenever there is an accident and you do get stung- alert someone to keep an eye on you and at first sign of problems, seek medical attention. When allergies do manifest themselves, they can move quickly with the possibility of grave results.

So this is my baby and she's finally swimming but not 100% I don't know what antibiotics to give because they have me 1 yesterday which I believe killed 3 of my snails and my Longnose butterfly who were all fine till I put that stuff in yesterday and this morning they were dead.

Sorry I don't have an answer but I can't seem to post from my profile and I'm in desperate need of help. My poo blue hippo tang was stung by my green long tentacle anemone and I was wondering if anyone can offer some advice on how to help her

If there were nematocysts on the fish still, I would wonder if a fresh water dip might help. That is just a thought- not something I know to be true, but it would make sense that it would help destroy the tissue of the nem.

You are very lucky. Next time your breathing is labored by something like that go strait hospital. As others have said it can move very fast

OMG I never thought of that. I will give it a try. My son is going crazy thinking the fish is dying and would hate for her to die. I'm very new to this. I've always had fresh water fish like red tail catfish, spotted gars Pacus and so on which were very much so easier to maintain but I finally got my husband to agree to get my saltwater tank up and running which I've now had for about 5months

I personally have been keeping and handling sea anemone's for about 28 years now.
I've for the most part not had any real issues all these years w/ the exception of two instances, one was my H. Crispa I had for 5.5 years, never an issue until one time it wove itself into my rockwork, and I had to get a little firm in trying to get it back where I really wanted it to be and away from PH's.
That day I did show red dots on my forearm for the first time after years of handling it or working around it.
Recently I had a fairly bad reaction to a Hadonni, a species I had never kept before.
Now that was more severe, headache, nausea, and w/ very little contact.
So I think it not only varies depending on species, but also your own personal body reaction, and very probably how much that animal may feel disturbed or threatened in how it was handled.
We all should probably be more careful in handling them as well as many other corals we keep.

Thank you so much. It worked very well and she's swimming way better and actually eating more. She has no more slime on her and now I can actually see the marks left from the anemone. She's almost back to her regular self. I appreciate the advice very much

In my case, I tried to move a S. haddoni by uprooting her base in barehand and stinged by her all over my hand for several times.

About half hour later, the fingers' joint of the stinged hand were swelling without usual itchy. I noticed this when I was cleaning the tank after moving the anemone. I was unable to grasp the tools.

And few minutes later, I felt extremely dizziness (harder than drunk) and sight blur.

Finally, I managed to layed down near the tank properly and slept (or lost of consciousness?) for overnight.

This is the most severe reaction I experienced. The symptoms resolved the day after.

Glad it helped!
