Heteractis Magnifica Propagation- 30 minutes ago in my kitchen!

I'm not trying to be negative....BUT...

Ok...bye now.

I think the title of this thread is premature.

I would title it "cut my mag in half". Propagation assumes a high rate of success.

Not trying to be negative, but I give you a 50% chance of ending with at least one. You won't know anything for about 6 weeks. All anemones when they are cut in half will look like yours - even gigs. I can't begin to count how many "fragged my anemone" threads there are on this forum, and everything looks great until about the one month horizon, at which point the person disappears and we never hear from them again.

Still looking fantastic! I'm simply amazed at your sucess thus far, and a fan. Just one question. Do they move around more now than before?

Thanks, and to answer your question...yes.

At first (post surgery) they didn't move of course because of the trauma.

Now both are moving around, but one more than the other.

Day to day it's different. One day one will appear to do better than the other and vise-versa.

I'm sure I'll have some problems eventually, but at this point, they both appear to be tolerating pretty well. I hope this will continue until they both get a defined mouth and are able to start eating.

Cheers!

This is quite awesome I'm glad to see the great progress. I understand that they're not in the clear yet but I still think this is a big step for anemone keeping no matter on the results. It's a beautiful nem and wish you the best of luck and hope both of them make it!!

I have one question. I've seen a few threads of people with cut anemones and you can see a "scar" is this how yours will turn out or is it something completely different?

I think scaring is always a possibility when flesh/meat is cut. Mine seems to be doing well and healing well. I don't think it will have much of a scar. If so, that would only confirm that the Mag was propagated. To me, it would confirm an exciting day.

There will be a scar at the base of the anemone. I would strongly advise you keep your new cut anemones out of your display until they are fully healed.

Roger that...I surely don't want to get them all sick at one time. Been there done that. A lot of salt, WC's, Time, Money, headache, loss of sleep, sweating, etc. :-)

It gets real expensive and busy real fast!

Jared,

Don't take this the wrong way but I would slow down brother man. If you want to be successful you need to be patient. I know how hard it can be once you catch the fever. But I feel unless you have more than 4 separate systems your going to cause yourself a huge headache with all these new nems and propagation.

Keep in mind I have been successful with propagation and keeping the mags long term.

Good luck

I hear you bro. You forgot more than I'll probably ever know about Mags. I do need to slow down though.

Speaking of 4 seperate systems...I have 8. :-)

:-))

Check out this little WC bucket I made for 10/G tanks.

50% WC's and just open valve and let it empty in sink.

I use these pill crushers to save time when I'm treating 3-4 sick mags at one time. They work great. I like this first one better than the silent knight. It's called the original pill crusher. I use the silent knight pill pouches with both. IMO, it's a must have if you have 3-4 go down at one time.
