Hey guys so i have a couple questions for you... if you would be so kind to help me out in anyway possible i would appreciate it ...

So i have a ritteri anenonme in a 40 gallon tank.. it is my designated clownfish breeding tank. The annonme seems to be doing okay but not as well as i would like. My water quality is great, i have a ro/di filter unit and been doing weekly water changes.. the tank however is only 2 months old. So basically im wondering what the optiumal amount of time for the lights to be on so my anenonme is happy. I have 4 watts per gallon btw... and how much flow do they like, i heard its high to moderate but what does that mean?? Direct flow? Just any information you can give me about this anenome would be awesome.

2 months is awfully young to be starting anything like breeding let alone an anemone. I've had my reef for 5 years and I just ordered my mag. What kind of lighting is it? Is your mag deflating consistently? My other post has many answers to your questions.

EC advised me to turn my lights off 15-30 minutes before it normally deflates during the day and every week or so increase the photoperiod for about 15 min. until you reach your normal lighting schedule.
 
what are your levels exactly? saying my water quality is great doesnt really help. Also 2 months means your just out of a cycle which IMO any nem is way to young for and may end up with problems due to that. Mags are pretty sensative, need very strong lighting and pretty strong ,random flow. Do you have pics? what does it mean that its not doing as well as you would like? is it deflating? is its mouth closed/open? these questions will help everyone. It should also be "opened up" 24/7 mags should never be "closed" for lack of better words..
 
well they like high and mid flow at different times, offset, they do require strong lighting. if any thing fails it will move to a location it likes
 
deflated most of the time is a very bad sign indeed. Mags are super sensitive and the only nem. I failed at. I had a 2 month old tank and it just didn't work at all. T5 lighting is not enough either IMO. Heavy intermittent flow is needed also. I have a 14 month old tank that I am just now considering having a mag in.
 
deflated most of the time means it is infected and not going to live. You can try to take it out and treat it with antibiotic.
In that young of a tank with a reefer who does not know much about it, I think it's chance is not good. Good luck with him.

Well.... ya know what we used to do to people in another forum..... Feed 'em to the sharks.

Sometimes it is funny to see a multiple year thread brought back to life... I am sure someone could find a thread about the new things called LED and all. HAHAHAHA
