history of lunar's reef

Thanks.

Yes, I'm a big fan of T5. They give me the best colors of SPS corals. I tried various kind of lightning but I still come back to T5.

Dear Krzysztof hello,

Your tank is as always amazing! By the way, I like your new setup!

I have a slight question regarding your method to extract nutrient. I know that your setup is based on biopellets. However, does your system also supported by live rock for nutrition export or biopellet make you feel so safe that you don't have to consider anything else whenever you make huge changes like the one you did a week ago?
My question is not only for LR, I would like to know if biopellets are by themselves enough to keep No3 and Po4 stable and close to zero.

Do you have try Metal Halide also? What do you think about it?

Yes, I used to have MH in my first tank from 1996 to 2006. This a good source of light for sps, you can also achieve great colors although different ones. T5 give you much more possibilities of changes.

Lunar, thanks for this thread. I just wanted to let you know that your tank is what got me inspired to get back into the hobby. After about 5 years away from all things saltwater due to having a few kids and moving, your tank not only inspired me to get back into the hobby, but to go full bore on an SPS tank.

Not sure if I should thank you for the inspiration, or curse you for deflating my bank accounts. :lol2:

Only biopellets? I don't think. To my mind, live rocks are always essential component of setup. They give more stability. Although I removed about 50kg of LR there are still plenty of LR in my tank, but only in the main tank. At the moment, after cleaning LR and removing old dsb, there are a skimmer and filter with 500ml of biopellets without any PO4 adsorber in a sump, without macroalgae, additional LR or siporax. I would say that LR and biopellets together keep NO3 and PO4 low. But it depends on how many animals there are in a tank, how much you feed them and how old your tank is. Earlier, when corals were bigger, I had to use PO4x4 phosphate remover with 2 liters of biopellets. I check ca, alkalinity and PO4 quite often. If PO4 rise I'll add a filter with PO4x4 phosphate remover (it's the most effective adsorber in my opinion).

Look better !

What's you bulbs combination ? and what did you feed your corals ?

A current combination of bulbs, from the front to the back:
- Aqua science blue
- Aqua science duo
- Fauna Marin Ultra Royal blue
- Aqua science duo
- Korallen zucht fiji (or ATI purple plus)
- Giesemann pure actinic
- Aqua science duo
- Fauna Marin Ultra Royal blue
- Aqua science duo
- Aqua science blue

I feed corals on various sea fruit (well blanded) with addition of calanus or another dry sps food and aminoacids weekly. I add Reef Pearls 5-200 microns from Reef Interests once or two per week.

Beautiful tank Krzysztof! I see the Bio-Pellets are working very well for you: very similar to Zeovit system.

Are you dosing any Zeospur2 or B-Balance etc?

Many thanks

Thank you, Sahin.
No, I use neither zeospur nor b-balance. I add FM color elements and bacteria Biogro 123, the best of all.
