Holy reefer!!!! Dd 250 custom

Not sure that it even has a name or model number yet...it was the proto type fixture shown by Coral Vue at MACNA this year. It uses true parabolic reflectors - which is rare for a "decorative" fixture due to the size of the reflectors.

PS- I sent you a PM

Real nice update, love the light are the MH bulbs 250 watt? You sure have larger bal.. than me that flying pump would keep me up at night.LOL

Thanks!
Yeah...but the cord holding up is rated at 200 lbs. And - it is the same cord/rope that has been holding up the first, and now second light systems...so, I am pretty comfortable with it.
And - the resonance of the pump motor - beacause it was sitting on wood - was transferred to the upstairs, near my bedroom - so I WAS up many nights before, now - nice and quiet!

Tee,
Just had a chance to check your updates since my last post. Still haven't finished all the renos on the main floor. I did however move our bed over to the new house so we have been at least sleeping there for the last 4 days. The wife is happier ... 4 months later lol. It takes a long time when you do it all yourself.

Anyways, I like the light. I wish I could have made it to MACNA this year. That must have been pretty awesome! I also really enjoy the fish room shots. I saw you mentioned that you got a profilux with dosing pumps. What are you using those for? I also have a GHL 4 pump standalone dosing unit but am not sure if i will end up using it or not. Last question, How do you have your water change system setup? You briefly mentioned that you had a pump, but could you go into more detail? Are you using this in conjunction with a controller? If so, What frequency does it happen?

Thanks
Rob

Good to hear from you Padrino! Glad you stopped in!

Don't you just love the domestic tranquility - when Momma is happy?;) Glad to hear you are progressing along - I know about the do it yourself...I drew and built this place...took extra time, but was really worth it.

Anyways, I like the light. Thanks! Seems to be working out very well! I wish I could have made it to MACNA this year. That must have been pretty awesome! It was the best one yet, and I have been to most of them. Hope you can make it to Iowa this year!I also really enjoy the fish room shots. Thanks again!I saw you mentioned that you got a profilux with dosing pumps. What are you using those for?Have not gotten them hooked up yet, but have everything to set up dosing Balling method, and other trace elements as desired. I also have a GHL 4 pump standalone dosing unit but am not sure if i will end up using it or not. Last question, How do you have your water change system setup? If you look at the "trapeezed pump" picture - then look left of it on the same shelf, there is a twin head diaphram pump. This one is much higher volume than the small dosing dosing pumps, like the Profilux. This one can exchange 30 gal. per day!. But, that would be running 24 hrs, continously. I am setting it up via timer to run for 4 hrs, thus changing 5 gallons per day. It takes water from the tall narroow 150 gal. vat on the right of the same photo I referred to earlier, and puts it in the sump, near the return pump intake. At the sam time it is removing the same volume of water from the other end of the sump - near the pipes from the the tank overflow - and then sending that to the floor drain. I am told that because the two pump heads are powered by the same motor and shaft, they will likely always parallel one another, so you don't have salinity creep up or down from the waterchange aspect. You briefly mentioned that you had a pump, but could you go into more detail? Are you using this in conjunction with a controller? If so, What frequency does it happen?Simple lamp timer. On period, 4 hours off for the remaining 20 .

Thanks
Rob

Speaking of lunatics running the asylum, what is up with this??!!??

:beer:I knew it would work!!! Posting that picture to get a rise out of you!

Actually Jim, it was an experiment to see what i would have to do to get rid of the resonance/harmonics from the pump. I tried setting it on carpet, rubber, then an inflatable pad,..and so on. But the house is built so rigidly that, the "thrumming of the pump was carrying up stairs.
So the "trapeeze":lol2:.
But I am making a more substantial arrangement for it that looks nicer. That rope is plenty strong enough, but - it does have a "spincter tightening" look to it, if you let your mind think about even the remote potentials, eh?:wavehand:

Will try that Jim! I examined both for damage - noe visible. But..the out of balance thing *is* worth looking into.

hhaaha Tee - fantastic.
Reminds me of a college friend who suspended his turntable from the ceiling to minimize resonance and skipping! :D

Yeah...my experimenting nowadays no longer includes chemicals ( like in college:spin2:) so this was kind of a fun - crazy - wild experiment. Shoot, at this rate - I may be bold enough to try DIET coke!:wavehand:

T - I am in the middle of setting up the 250 DD. I am in the process of putting the blue styrofoam sheathing under the tank. Went with 1/2" but once I place under the tank there is about 1/16" gap between the bottom frame and the top of the stand. Is this going to be OK? I left a space around the edges of the foam and the inside of the frame so the styrofoam could compress.

I think I read somewhere that you have generally used this and would highly recommend.

Thanks.
