I-Tech Skimmer Club .

So I'm a newbie to a tank with a sump to bare with me here. I have an ITech 100 waiting to be setup however because of some poor placement of a cross beam in my stand, I'm struggling to get to the 6.5" optimal water height as I don't have much head room where they skimmer fits best. Between boosting up the skimmer on something as high as I can (and still be able to remove the cup) and perhaps cutting some teeth in my baffle I can get to around 8" or at best 7.5".

What effect will that have and how bad will it be? Just trying to determine how creative I have to be in getting to the magic 6.5".

OK that helps a bit but I'm still a little lost on the degrees of "bad" by not being at the 6.5" recommended. Would running at 7.5"/8" cost me 10% in performance or 90% in performance? Would it have me emptying the collection cup every day because the skim would be so wet? The 100 is probably oversized for my 60gal setup so I'd be OK losing a little performance but not a ton. If it's a ton, I'll just have to figure out how to get a bit more room in the stand.

** NEWS FLASH**

I stopped by i-Tech over the weekend and they have been busy. They have a new twist on an old favorite. There was a 100 model skimmer that had the capabilities of moving the pump to internal or external. This will be very nice for everyone. You now have a choice of how much of a foot print your skimmer will take up in the sump. John said that he plans to make all of the i-tech skimmers with this option in the future. If you thought that was great news wait to you see what else they got in the old wood shop! ....i-Tech will now be made using a state of the art CNC machine!

I yanked one of my cross beams out to fit mine. I still might shove it back in there in a different spot, but not sure if I really need to.
Another idea is to maybe create a notch in the cross beam. Could maybe even add some additional beams between cross beams if you have the room. Almost how a window is constructed between the wall beams of a house.

Now that I think about it, not too many people will understand the bionic man reference. It was more or less going along with the 70s theme the store flyer sent out last week. It had the employees as the crew from The Love Boat tv show lol.

I totally got it. The 6 million dollar man ruled. I was born in 73 btw.

I want to elaborate more and explained the pump placement. When I say external vs. internal I am speaking of the pump inside the cone vs outside. Visualize a Nac6 skimmer's pump placement. They do make an External skimmer as well but I am speaking of the pump being internal. Just to clear any confusion.

iTech 200.
About 12 hours short of one full week of skimming after a full cleaning of the skimmer cup and cone.
Tank only has 3 small fish in it and I feed a little once a day.
Tank has been fully up and running for a month now.

No noise. Uses like 15 watts of power, runs cool and silent. I can't hear the skimmer running until I open the cabinet and hear the "very slight" air intake.
