It shouldn't be glued. If you pull out the pipe you may be able see up there to look for glue residue, if none channel lock pliers will do the job.

Good suggestion but just tried the channel lock without success. For some reason, I think mine is glued. Just seems strange since it mentions that it is removable on the instruction sheet. I could see how someone assembling them might accidentally glue one after installing the clear silencer piece that gets glued into the cap on top of the riser. Anyone else not able to remover theirs?

Regardless, I could figure out a way to do a pretty good job cleaning out the clear silencer tube and the silencer tube fitting on the side can still be removed and cleaned easily.

ITECH and Avast Marine! What a pair

Big thumbs up to Justin.

Interesting.
I purposely go as long as I can without cleaning the neck of my collection cup because my i-Tech 200 always skims more with a dirty neck.

I had not seen the Avast device before, something I'll look into.
But I second D2's observation, my 200/Tunze seems to skim better with a coating of goo on the neck.

For anyone looking to convert to iTech, I highly recommend the Tunze pump over the Sicce. Night and day difference - worth every penny.

I was wounding if any one can help me. I have a 200/tunze, in 6 3/4" of water and it seems to skimm really wet. It was in 7" of water but I've read that the deeper the water the wetter the skim. I like to keep the level of water in the skimmer right at the bottom of the neck so I don't get skim crud in the body of the skimmer.

I should mention that it's been running for about 3 months. Also the LR I got was covered with hair algae and now three months later no more hair algae. But for the first month I baked the rock in an ice chest During that time the skimmer skimmed great it looked like watery pudding. Was that cus I was skimming all the hair algae?

I've had my i-tech 100 with the Tunze (internal pump) up and running for a couple weeks now. Due some limitations in my current sump, I tried running it in about 5" of water for awhile. Well, let's just say that is not going to work with this skimmer. It's just too shallow and John had advised me that this was most likely going to be the case. I made a temporary home for the skimmer in my large fuge where it can run in 7" of water and immediately saw a complete change in performance. John had recommended running this particular model in 6.75-7.00" and that it seems much happier now that I have made that change.

i will would like to know also about the noise level on the model 400, can anyone post a photo of this skimmer in operation?

An update I bought one of the early models 220 with the Sicce pump and I upgraded to the Tunze 9420 about 4 months ago. After I took it out and cleaned it I put the pump back in and noticed that the air line tube was twisted the skimmer seemed to be working correctly but I noticed in the past of a very slow skimmate production like a finger wide in three or four days, since I have a nitrate problem red slime problem and hair algae problem I was perplexed . So I made sure that the air line tube was not twisted, this is the part that goes from the skimmer to the air tube it is about 1 1/2 long my skimmer is now pulling two cups a day out on my 120. So my recommendation for the Tunze owners is check the air tubing for kinks or twisting and also check the electrical cord for splitting where it enters the pump there is a 2 year warranty on these pumps. PS for the 400 users there will be a bigger Hydrofaomer than the the 9420 more like a Askol 1500 I believe.

Bump please. My tank is 220g display (probably 200lbs of rock in there so closer to 200g) and about 20-30g of water in my sump. I only keep softies and LPS, but I may go for some easier to keep SPS like Montis.

I'm also lazy with my water changes, so I truly need a skimmer that is up to par. No fuge.

I have:

2 Percs
1 Falco Hawk
2 Yellowtail Damsels (love these guys. Might add 2-3 more)
1 Sm Powder Brown Tang
1 Med Yellow Tang
1 Med Chevron Tang
1 Med-Lg Purple Tang
1 Lg Sailfin Tang
1 Lg-ish Hippo Tang

From what I gather, the 200 would be good, but the 400 would be better, and is not TOO big. I'm going to get a 400 to be safe. :)
