Just use a regular John Guest shut off valve from Home Depot/Lowes. To use the cup, simply shut the valve off. The cup itself is vented sl as long as the container is lower than the cup it will not matter if the tube is submerged or not.

That's not the drain, that's the air vent for the venturi....I sure does look like a drain though

6 month update: my i-Tech 200 has been kicking aXX from day 1, and never slow down for single day. I am running a 75G SPS dominant, I have no refuge/no filter sock and any other mechanical filter. The i-Tech 200 is pretty much the only source for nutrinent export alone with 10% bi-weekly WC. After seeing how well the skimmer perform, I started to heavy feed my fish and coral, my SPS has decent growth and color, check out my tank update here

I would say by far one of the my best device pick.

BTW: almost forgot to mention: I dose a bit of MB7 to help the nutrient export, I don't know how much it helps but overall my NO3 is well controlled at 5, I think this is sweet spot since I don't need to worry about coral being starved and on the other end, algea is well under control. So far I am not targetting on ULN and does not see a need for it.

I am using the I-Tech 100 w/ Tunze pump on my 120g and it works great.

I convinced my buddy to get an I-Tech as well. His I-Tech 100 uses a sicce w/ ppw. At the exact same water hight as mine, and stand pipe fully open, the skimmer goes crazy and fills the cup with water. (External water line is flush with the top of the outlet T.)

Any ideas? This skimmer is supposed to be a step up from his ASM.

The skimmer is not a step up....it's a large leap. Which Sicce pump is he running? Have you tried your Tunze pump on his skimmer? MyI Techs have gone crazy at times if I forget to turn off when changing the socks but very temporary.

His skimmer is in too deep of water. Your can either build a skimmer stand to raise it up or lower the sump water level (if you can).
