I-Tech Skimmer Club .

i have the model 200 on a 150gal, i'm placing an order by Dec for a 300 gal marineland. Will the model 200 be enough are should i upgrade to the 400?

Depends on our bio load. Your 200 should be able to handle the 300D tank if you are not keeping a lot of fish. If you do plan to keep large amount of fish or large size fish then a 400 would be best. I am currently running a I-Tech 400 on my 150g SPS dominated.

Everyone system is different. I would set it on the second dot and after a few days if the foam doesn't reach the collection cup just starting tweaking up. I recommend doing this process slowly. During my breaking period and learning to tune it I rush it and my skimmer became a water cannon. Take your time and once it is dial in you can leave it alone.

the skimer is broken in, it is the pump that is new. I switched from the sicce and I connected the tunze yesterday, and boom. Water cannon. I had to dial it almost all the way down to keep it from overflowing. I have it on the second dot now, hopefully it will not be flowing over the top when I get home.

Does your collection cup has a drain on it? If it does then get a 3 or 5 gallon bucket and have the skimmate dump into it. This way if it goes water cannon and you are away it drain into the bucket. This will prevent any big mess.

Keep in mind that when you ever have to clean your skimmer this process will happen again. By then you will have enough experience with your skimmer to dial it back down temporary.

Do you plan on getting a bigger tank in the future? If you are you probably better of holding on to it? Is it not skimming correctly? What corals and how many fishes do you have?

Still setting up my 50 gal. However when I loan it to a friend, on his 120 it still overskim. I plan on havey stocking my 50 with fish and sps.

Because I love having lots of fishes and keeping SPS, I wanted a skimmer that is overkill. Also, I knew I will be upgrade to a larger tank within a year or so. I would keep the 200 for now and if you feel it is too much skimmer then you can downgrade.

But then if it doesn't stop, it can drain your tank and flood your house.

No it won't. If you used a 5 gallon bucket and set the riser pipe so the foam is up to the neck you should be fine. During the break in the skimmer sometimes just goes nuts and the 5 gallon bucket is a lot larger then the collection cup. Once you come home you empty the bucket. Sometimes you don't need to. Keep adjusting it until you are happy with the skimmate it is producing.

Where is your water level? If the water level is too high you'll push too much water also, causing the overflow. The Tunze just flat pushes more water/bubbles. I would just ensure your skimmer isn't too deep on your water line. I have my sump level centered on the skimmer output and works best on mine.

Where do you have your riser tube set? I just hooked up my tunze on the 200 and I have to keep it on the second dot or it overflows. It has only been a day so i hope it breaks in a little.

I have a dot above where my water outlet is so including that dot mine is set at 2 and 1/4 dots.

just bought a model200 with a tunze pump :)

product in transit as we speak. i'm excited. thx to all who commented and helped me choose the best

Got some black eggcrate and rasied it about 2", working great now. I cannot hear the tunze pump at all, now I hear my return pump making noise lol

Well after reading a good chuck of this thread I decided to get an i-Tech 100 with a tunze pump inside the body in order to fit into my sump. John told me that they are about two weeks out from being able to ship unfortunately but alas....all good things come to those who wait.

I hear you man. I'm waiting for the same thing myself.
