IceCap 3K Gyre Generation Flow Pump

I took the plunge and purchased the IceCap Gyre for my 32gal Biocube. Should arrive tomorrow. Will post in a couple of days my experience with it.

Definitely alot of flow in a Biocube 32 LED. Great pump though at the price point if you just need 1. I've found that if I run it over 30% with the sand in the tank it creates a bare spot. I have the ARAG-ALIVE! REEF SAND - CARIBSEA in the tank. I also found out that out of the box it's set to 100%. If your tank is not very large that will be a problem, trust me. :roll face:

I just threw up a video on youtube about the pump. https://youtu.be/pdXsZE_95bo

I just ordered one from marinedepot, had $50 worth of points so it was a no brainer @ 99.99, should be here next tuesday for my 90 gallon.

2 more days of 100% alternating back and forth. Its mostly quiet from 70% down now. Reverse is a little noisier. But its is still getting better. I think in another few days or a week I will be very happy with this. Then ill find a position and speed im happy with. im sure i wont run it over 70% if even that high. Thing moves tons of water, I have big ruts in the sand 3 feet away from the gyre.

are you having success with reverse ? I've heard and seen on some reviews that the flow in reverse is pretty much non existent, did you swap the paddles?

I have one on the way for my 90 and I'm super excited.

haven't swapped paddles. Didn't think they had different ones for the icecap version. Reverse moves enough water to make its own big rut in the sand about 8" from the gyre.

Reverse works great in my setup. I see it pull stuff out of the rocks and sand that forward mode doesn't get. The flow is substantially less than forward mode but it works.

good to know I'll have to give reverse a try, mine should be here tomorrow hopefully, new skimmer arrived today but not sure it will fit in the current sump, building a new stand for the new sump (ruby 36)

just got mine hooked up and installed, super easy. and programming is a snap took all of a few minutes messing with the controller to figure out how to set a schedule with switching modes etc.

@ 70% pulse and .6 seconds it makes huge waves in my 90 gallon.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxJQAXO7JRk quick video showing the waves/surface agitation. it's the only power head on in the video.

I'm definitely going to be getting one of these to try out. Thanks to those who are sharing their experience so far. I've been hoarding my Marine Depot points to get one of these. :D

Getting a little antsy. My new 3K Gyre is on truck for delivery right now. Can't wait to get home and set it up tonight. Any advice for break-in or general set-up on a 90 gallon?

Mine has been running for a week on my 180g tank. Replaced an MP40 and so now I have the 3k gyre on 1 side and 2 MP40 on the other. Have plenty of flow now.

The 3k gyre provides lots of nice even flow. Reverse in gyre mode is really nice

I talked to support because mine was pretty noisy. He told me to run it in alternating mode for a few days. I ran mine in alternating at 100% for 4 or 5 days. It mostly quiet now. Running it on 50% in random mode. I dont hear it at this speed.

I was/am still cycling so i could run it at full speed and not worry about fish or corals. If your stocked I wouldnt run it at full speed in a 90. I have a 75. Mine is mounted 3-4" from the top of tank. at full speed it would leave sand rutts all the way to the glass in forward and reverse. at 50% its playing nice with the sand.

Got it installed and running. Still playing around to see how I want it to go. I have noticed that in reverse is not doing anything even on -90. Am I missing something??

Is one of these enough for a 90 gallon mixed (eventually) reef tank? What would benifits of this over two jebao pp-8's?

It would be plenty of flow (gph). Only issue might be that is would provide insane flow at the source and adequate flow at the farthest point.

Well I installed this Friday night, did a water change Sunday and I still cannot get rid of the Cyano. ***!!
