I've never seen an emerald crab give birth, but I've the 2 locked in a mating embrace and seen my female open it's flap to eat the eggs. That was kind of cool to see. Only saw it once and never saw it again.

Hello,

I'm Graeme and new to RC.
I live in Holland and got a 14 gallon nano aquarium.

I hope to find some more info about nano's here since they are not so common in the Netherlands
[welcome]

I lived in Germany in the Eifel just on the border and visited Holland quite a bit. We were there for 6 years and visited keukenhof during the tulips season twice. There's something about seeing fields of never ending tulips. And of course Amsterdam.....ahh.....those were good times too.

Back on subject. If you don't already know, RC has a Nano Forum to check out. Good luck with your nano.

The wife and I didn't realise she was carrying larvae. We saw the 2 "embrace" several times and thought they were fighting, not..um..mating.

We would have never seen what happened if not for the chromis. They were acting strangely, swimming/hovering just over the rock instead of their normal top of the tank location.

We went over to see what the commotion was and saw the female up on a rock, fortunately in full view. Her flap was open, revealing a large jelly mass. About 2x/min, she would convulse and release a couple of dozen larvae.

The chromis thought it was candy and ate every one until about 20mins later, the lights timed out and the chromis went to bed.

The crab still had most of her cargo; we assume she continued to release larvae into the night. Its nice to imagine somewhere under the rock, there may be tiny crabs trying to make a living....

Thanks for the welcome!!

Good day all, I am Brian from Virginia and am about to start on my first SW Tank. Tank is going to be a 120gallon with a 75 gallon sump/refuge (still doing research on this to see what I need). Will be ordering my skimmer soon which will be the SWC Extreme 200. Then just need to get my stand and hood built!

Belgium, was a place we drove through to get to Amsterdam :D. No not really, Liège is a town that sticks out but I can't remember why....

All of us americans had to have that fine Belgium furniture, we bought a nice 3 piece curio cabinet from a town just over the border.

Anyway glad to have you here, If you have a build thread of your tank I'd be interested in following along. Send me a PM of it, or if you don't, please start one.

I believe I read that the female crab can fertilize eggs for up to 2 years with one 'mating embrace'.

'sup RC?

Im Russ, and Im based in Yorkshire, England.

Currently I run a D&D DX24, thats about 3 years old.

In the next couple of weeks im planning a bit of an upgrade to an Aqua Medic Chromis (55cm cube), largely so i can get fish that i can see. Might even start a tank thread!

My current stock are a red fire fish, green mandarin (yes, he eats frozen, and cultured pods) and a yasha haze/pistol shrimp combo, all of which generaly like hiding!

In there i also have an acan, duncan, branching hammer, toadstool, zoas, catalaphyllia, candy cane, and some gsps

Hello RC. I am Wayne and I apparently joined this forum and never had any input or did anything really. I have been in the saltwater game since 1 June 2009. I originally started out with a 125 gallon and now upgraded to a 225 gallon setup.

I'm new to this. I'm setting up a 29g at home verrrrry slowly. I'm planning on a seahorse tank, so I am researching the heck out of it before I even get water. Should be drilling the tank tomorrow.

Hey guys, this is my obligatory introduction post. I'm new to RC, but I've been a member of thereeftank for a while under the same alias. I hope to learn a lot and help out even more, I've already written many guides etc, so hope to contribute here as well.
