New to Marine

Hi Everyone! About 2 months ago I was about to sell all my freshwater equipment and give up the hobby entirely after nearly 15 years. My brother convinced me to switch to a Reef tank, thinking I may get back into aquariums. Was he ever right! My reef tank is in the begging stages and I am excited to have found this forum, I have lots of questions! Look forward to learning and sharing with the community. -Derek (having a little trouble posting a pic of the tank, will read up on how to do it correctly)

My name is Markanthony, imp new to the hobby, I got introduced to it by a colleague from work. I am still doing research on what exactly the size of tank to be... I know some what of what I want to put in it.. I am leaning on a 75 gal tank., Any helpful advise or information would be greatly appreciated...

Hello All!

My name is Nicky, but I easily answer to Teela. I'm Servillius' girlfriend of 4 years. Serv has his 30 gal hex and sump set up that is quite nice, mostly because he lets me pick out all the fish and goodies that are in there. Generally, this process involves me going "OOOOOH, Pretty!" and him telling me that it will die, eat something I like, or grow to twenty feet in ten minutes and then borrow my shoes and get them all icky. Occasionally I get a positive response and the little guy goes into the tank.

I am currently establishing a 10 gal salt tank for some Dwarf Seahorses. I'm being a bit experimental with it. I'm doing a 3" deep sand bed with a sandsifting starfish and undergravel filter. Dwarfs like very low flow and you have to take some extreme measures to keep them out of other mechanical filters so we shall see how this works. I've been monitoring it for about 5 months now with just a snail and some algae and so far I have tons of shrimps, copepods, and other crawlies in there that will be delicious snackies for my herd.

I hope to get a good breeding group growing. Our LFS has already expressed interest in any excess babies I produce and with me already okaying Serv an 80+ gal zeroedge system for the new house he's going to have to buy me first, we can use all the store credit we can get.

We are also considering a mangrove grove for more store credit. He's working on a rather sinister plan http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1673979 now that he's worked out a great way of getting the little guys to grow and still be somewhat mobile.

hihihi!

hihihi!

Hello RC world! About a month or two ago I started the process of buying my very first condo and around that time the idea popped up of what a great way having a new fishtank would help decorate the place as well as being a fun hobby. I've been absolutely obsessed ever since! Night after night of websurfing info on fishtanks til early morning hours has brought me here, mecca of all marine info, and I figured it was due time I stopped lurking and said hello. :P Hopefully, after my remodelling is done with if I still have a dime to my name I will make this obsessesion a dream come true and will document it along the way so everyone can laugh at my newbie mistakes. If anyone is in the Houston area and has a LFS they would like to refer it would be appreciated. Also, thanks to all of RC community on helping this nabsauce learn priceless info on what it takes to create and maintain a marine aquarium.

Hi everyone,

I tore down my reef tank about a year as I was only getting mixed success. The bug has bit me again, but this time I'm going to do it right. I look forward to learning with everyone and hopefully contributing as I get more experience.

anemone question

anemone question

Hello
About 2 months ago I received a Cinnamon clown with his hosting long tent anemone from a friends tank. They are beautiful. The clown is about 4.5 inches and the anemone spreads out to at least 12 in.The LTA was a a flesh color with white strips radiating from its mouth and has started to get darker more of a brown. Is this a sign of good health? Also I have notice its mouth open on occasion is that normal?

colour in anemones and corals is more a product of the lighting conditions then it is bad health(although it can be or course)

some people feed there anemomes some people don't. If you wish to feed your anemone get some silver side minnows --cut off a small piece and place it near its tentacles so it can grab it.

Silver sides is a good all round feed for everything in the tank. Since it is the whole fish it contains alot of fish oils which are excellent for health and colour;) :D

i am new to the hobby and am currently shopping for tank, etc. we have come across a tank that sounds like a good deal but it has a couple small scratches on the back inside from moving the rock (the seller tells us). is there any concerns with the scratches? it is a 200 gal tank with thick glass. please advise - looking for answers!

Hello

Hello

Hello folks :~) My name is Mike and I'm new to the saltwater world. My family and I live near St. Louis MO. and have had a couple of small freshwater tanks over the years, mainly Tetras, neons and Painted Glass. I recently was bit by the saltwater bug and ended up with a running 12 gallon nano with a small 'feather duster' and 2 blue leg dwarf hermit crabs.

Thank you capn_hylinur! I'll have more when there is something interesting to document. Right now he's gearing up to take the bar exam next week so the tank is in limbo for now.
