If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

Hey All,

I'm new here, heard from a couple of helpful folks that this is the hang out for reefers all over the planet. I got hooked when my buddy brought an 11g tank up, now we've just upgraded to a 55g tank and got everything running smoothly. Still need some more rock and marine life to fill out the tank, but everyone seems to be settling in nicely.

I'm new to the hobby but have been soaking up info along the way, everyone we've run into collecting the necessities has been more than helpful and very friendly. I look forward to hanging out with everyone and someday dropping some knowledge on new reefers myself.

Cheers,
-ian

Hang out for reefers all over the planet-----and more. I understand Water Keeper is from a distant galaxy.;)

Hello...

well I am new RC. Never thought of joining in the past but after yesterdays debacle I decided to join. I have read ReefKeeping in the past and enjoy all the issues in it especially the "10 Best" column.

Started into saltwater aquaria in November of 2008 after about a year of research and hearing my freshwater online friends rave about their new saltwater setups. So ended up starting small and tore down my 30gal breeder and transformed it to a salt tank. I don't have much in there as of now as I am trying to take things slow (takes a LOT of willpower  ). I will eventually take a 65gal tall that I have empty and turn that into a salt tank as well. The sump/refugium will ge a 50gal tank. That will be a long term project.

Currently my 30gal has a pair of true percs, a green chromis (why does everyone say they have to be kept singly when they are a schooling fish?), and a Japanese pistol shrimp with a Yasha Hashe Goby that were paired when I purchased them.

Coral is pretty limited to some duncans, and leathers, as well as a pulsing Xenia that is slowly starting to take over areas of the tank. Frags anyone ;)

I have had other stock in the tank, however due to a nasty bout of pneumonia and some other health concerns I lost some as I was unable to care for the tank properly.

Typical clean-up crew in there

Equipment is what I could afford at the time. Yes I realize that some of it will have to be upgraded over time.
Light - Current USA Nova Sundial T5HO 4x42w (2-10k, 2-420nm Actinic, 2-LED Moonlights)
Powerhead - VorTech MP20 Powerhead
Skimmer - Tunze Nano DOC
There is no sump or refugium on this tank. I do however have a modified AC70 HoB that is woking as a mini version. This will over time be replaced with a connection to the sump/refugium for the 65gal, thus connecting the two systems.

I also have a 65gal long tank that is becomming a S. American biotype and a 40gal breeder that is housing my King Tiger pl*cos. Yes the other addiction is pl*cos. i have the usual other sundry tanks around the place (QT/Isolation) breeding etc.

Looking forward to the forums and seeing what is out there and getting ideas, as well as furthering my knowledge in saltwater aquaria.

Hello I am new to Reef Central and just wanted to say hello. My wife and I have 4 tanks and love this hobby (way of life). Hope to get to know you guys and learn/share as much as we can.

Suppose I should say Hi.

Hi.

Already got the scrolling welcome from Capn in another thread. Been reading a lot on here lately. Love all the information sharing, the good and the bad, available.

I had/have a 55g w/ 10g refugium that I'm starting from scratch again. I ran it for a good year and it was pretty successful. I took it over after being taken care of by my sister-in-law for around 3-4 years before that. Last year our house and contents were destroyed in a flood. We'll see how good I am at getting it started.

I'll probably start a thread here soon documenting my process and taking pictures.

Thanks, capn. (Finally found the quote button. lol)

Don't really see a dedicated subforum for things like logs or journals. But I've seen individual's threads all over the place. All very interesting too. Where or what subforum should I post something like that up. I plan on it being a long running journal so I can look back on it because I know I'll forget things I did that I'll want to know later or look back on for trends.

Start a thread and subscribe to it. People will be able to post in it but that's not a bad thing because you'll get some good advice along the way.

or use the blog feature---its a very underused feature on here(except by me :D

I like the blogs because you can always update them. With a thread you only have one hour to change it.

Capn is the only one that uses it. But he definitely has a great set up over there. He just needs the company :D

i use the blogs as well, and certainely read the cap-n's a heck of a lot as well, very useful and you can create a tank thread as your home page.

Hey all,

I'm new here. I've browsed the forum off and on to find info and figured I'd join to get the max amount of info on the hobby.
Been in the sw game for about 2 years now and kept off and on for about 6-7 years.

Had a 55g softie reef that got converted into a 90g mixed reef that my brother currently has set up.
Now I'm starting a nano in my new apartment- ordered a Current Solana 34g tank from my local LFS with the stand and 150W MH pendant. Cant wait to set it up and steal some frags from my brother's tank. Free coral rocks!!

Finally got around to starting the thread. So, any input from anyone is more then welcome. I just started with a little background of where I'm at now with the tank.
