It has been almost 15 years since I had my 30 Gal tall with a home built backpack. I had a Percula Clown that was paired with an anemone and a beautiful Purple tang. I just bought a 90 gal acrylic with Stand that I hope to transform. A lot has changed and a lot has stayed the same. I am remembering some but I am learning so much more. Looking forward to contributing to this wonderful albeit expensive hobby. Now that youth travel soccer is finished I may still come out ahead..:blown:

Very new to salt water please need some info

Hey so basically I've had freshwater fish for about 6 months and decided to get rid of them to change my tank over to a salt water aquarium! I have all the sand bed laid out and I do have some live rocks and corals, The salt water levels are sitting right above 1.025 and I have all the under water fans, heaters, Im just wondering where i go from here do I throw my live rocks in the water and let it start cycling for a couple days and let the crazy amount of dust to settle on the bottom??

Hey all. New to this hobby in January. Started out strong. Now dealing with high nitrates, phosphates and ammonia, ugh.

Also could some someone confirm if this is a hydroid and if not what it might be and if it should be there.

New to saltwater

HI everyone! Love that I found this club! I've had freshwater for years and decided to dip my toes in the ocean last year and setup my first saltwater tank. I very quickly found the difference! I currently have a 35 gal tank with a Marineland canister (yes I know, rookie mistake). I'm looking to upgrade to a larger tank. The current size evaporates to quickly to make it enjoyable. I'm looking forward to finding some great post!

I am currently very new to the hobby!! I just started set up on my first tank and cannot wait until I can start getting some critters in there. I currently have a Biocube 29g. I took out all of the bioballs and replaced with 2 black mechanical foam filters with a poly filter on top and bottle of matrix biomedia in a sack towards the back where the return pump is. In between the two I got rid of the foam filter and put in a matrix carbon packet. I have the original return pump with a UV sterilizer attached as well. All the hood components will stay the same until I can figure out what to do to update them. I added 17 lbs of live rock and 30 lb of live sand. I went ahead and bought premixed water. I do have an R/O that I bought that I still need to set up.
When I added the water that night I added a live bacteria culture to help speed the cycle up a bit.
I do have a coralife biocube skimmer on its way.
I am just wondering if I am missing anything and if I should do anything more?

Hello RC! I will say I am new to the Saltwater portion of the hobby. I have been doing research for well over a year. I currently have a 75g tank that has been sitting empty for about 2 years while I collect what I need to get it set up! The plan for the tank is an SPS Dominate Zeovit tank. It's still slow going as I want to do it right. I'm here to collect more knowledge and do my best to contribute to the ever growing community! I look forward to talking and getting to you! Thank you!

Hi Everyone. New to saltwater and found this site while researching several months ago. Still working out some of the details of my setup, but I have a 150g DT with a 55G sump. Everything is plumbed and leak tested. Now just waiting on 110 lb of Pukani rock to cure. The forums have been a great resource.

Greetings fellow aquarium hobbists/lovers!

Greetings fellow aquarium hobbists/lovers!

Not exactly new but might as well be, things/technology have so changed. 25 some odd yrs ago I had two salt 55s and a 29 up at the same time.

Today being as I am retired I have restarted but on a smaller scale, I currently have up and running a 15g fresh and just started a 7.5 Reef Nano up for about 10 days. Believe it or not it has cycled already :)

I know the value of forums and the vast wealth of solid first hand information they provide. Way back when I learned so much from folks like your self's.

I am not a sensitive person so if I post something you disagree with or have a problem with feel free to have at it, I take no offense.

Have a good one I look forward to our relationship here.

I guess I should introduce myself here too. I'm somewhat new (well, not really). I had a reef tank for a while well over 10 years ago and was active on Reef Central. My old member name/log-in has expired and I'm getting back into the hobby now. For the last few years I've had a small nano set-up for my son, but expanding and diving back down the rabbit hole again now.

Hi Everyone,

Total newbie here. Had my tank for 6 months and I can't believe how much I've learned so far. Looking forward to learning more :).

Hello I'm Gabino from Nogales, Az. I'm returning to the hobby after a 4 year break. But I started in 1997. There is a lot of new info and stuff and I'm a pretty good learner. Hope we can get friends

New from Woodridge, IL

Hey everyone. Amit here from Woodridge, IL (suburb of Chicago). Recently setup a Fluval M90. Currently in the process of acquascaping my rock and hoping to setup an external sump this weekend. Goal is to have a viable reed tank.

Thanks in advance for all of the help I know I will be needing!

Hi! New here. Just cycling my tank with live rock... I have questions for someone good with species guessing... the pet store sent us home with a stow away in our live rock... he survived 2 hours without water... I know our tank isn't ready for fish but what should I do? The pet store is closed. I'll get some pictures of him maybe someone can let me know what he is although I'm pretty sure I will bring him back to the store tomorrow I'm curious...

Introduction and Acclimation

Introduction and Acclimation

Hello all, :wavehand:
I'd like to introduce myself, You all can call me Smokey, (Old family nicname). I have been reading for days, Through years of posts getting acclimated to these forums. I like what I've found/learned so far, So I'll be hanging around. My last Marine Tank was nearly 40 years ago! My how things have changed.
I am currently in the most important stage of a new setup, The planning stage. My space and budget are limited and I've nearly planned myself out of the idea at times. It keeps getting bigger and triple the cost I'd started with. But I'm sure I'll find a good fit the Wife will approve of.
I'll try to post my ideas and comments in the correct threads.

Smokey

Hello,

I'm a noob from California. Had experience with freshwater and planted tanks in the past. Bought a used JBJ 28 gallon nano cube in June 2016 to start off with.

Not new here, but the last time i popped my head in was in 2007. I can access my old account for some reason so I had to start a new one. Anyways, I just started converted my old Fluval Edge into a rimless tank and set it up as a nano reef at work. Should have an A.I. Prime HD showing up today.

Anyways, hello again to all the members that may still be around from long ago and a regular hello to all the new members that have become the veterans around here now.

New to RC. Not so new to the hobby.

New to RC. Not so new to the hobby.

Hello Reef Central!
New to the forum but have been in the hobby my entire life. 40 plus years of some kinda aquarium(s) in my home. I have prowled RC for years for new ideas and concepts. Never had the need to become a member, but felt it was the right thing to do after watching from the sidelines for so long. I guess I thought that sometimes during those 40 years of fish keeping I might of learned a thing or two that might be worth sharing. And I doubt anyone reads this intro either way. :fun2:
Anyway, I will be posting my most recent build pics soon. A 40B which I have never done before. So excited to get started on this one and see where it goes!

Thanks for having me on-board.

Quinn

Superharh,

That is a "Lawnmower Blenny" or Salarias fasciatus.
Great fish with a HUGE personality to go with it. BUT not so great for a new tank. They require some algae and established sand beds to munch on.
Congrats on the freebie though!
