If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

Hello everybody!

Here I am, with some freshwater experience with Angel fishes tanks. I am original from Barcelona, but one year ago I changed my job, so now I am living in Geneva, Switzerland. And of course, with the change of house, job, city, is also good to change a little bit the hobby.

So I would like to start a new tank, but this time is going to be salty water. :) I am planning to have a 300 liters (almost 80 gallons) + Sump. Start with some fishes, easy corals, and if everything goes as expected... try to improve the tank and water conditions to get some hard ones.

I am going to be around the forum, reading and asking a lot of questions about, overflows, sumps, reactors, pumps... and lots of things.

keep reefing.
Alex

Hi All

I'm new to keeping a reef tank, I recently got a 120l Aqua One, which has just finished cycling. I've been doing my research on this hobby for years and I finally pulled the trigger on a tank. I'm hoping to one day have a larger tank across a wall when I am a homeowner.

Hi

Hi

My name is Thom and I have been looking in on RC since 2009. Never posted anything just read everything I could and checked out everyone else's builds. Well it's my turn now and I am looking for some different ideas. I have been in and out of the hobby for at least 30 years. I have a 125 now and bought a 300. I am considering a closed loop system. But up in the air at the moment. But need to get off the pot as they say. I have asohal getting ready to bust the seems out of the 125. LOL What I would like to explore and looking for ideas or even facts. Is it feasible to run a drain to my UV filter and it,the UV filter still be effective? Looking for input. Thanks

Thom

Hello guys and gals. My name is Raul and I am new to saltwater tanks. I have been keeping freshwater for about 4 years.

My last tank was a 100 gallon Discus tank and when we moved into our current home I sold it.

Just bought a bigger ho.e and now I am looking to get another tank and the wifey wants saltwater for a more attractive look.

Ideally I would like to take over an established tank someone is looking to sell for economic reasons. Have my max budget at 1k and ideally I'd like 60 Gallon or bigger.

I'd like some pros and cons. If I live in so. Cal and have the central AC on all the time at 73 do I need a chiller? I will have many, many questions.

Hey all, finally a member here... Had reef tank in the past, but it was a bit antiquated in scope. This time around, I have a 180 reef tank. Corals are growing well, although recently I have some browning and bleaching on a few SPS corals. I think my tank is too low on nutrients... my dKh is about 8.5... pH is 8.34... Calcium is at 460... do I really need to test Magnesium? I probably will. At any rate... good to be here...

Need Help with Corals / Fish purchases in India

Hi Guys,

I used to live in USA and returned to India recently. I am setting up a reef tank at my house in Bangalore. Is there any vendor who ships corals and marine fish to India?

Please advise.

Thanks,
Suresh

Hi all...

Hi all...

I'm new here and currently in research mode. I'm looking at tank size between 60 to 80 gallons... but I am very overwhelmed by even thinking about starting a reef tank....
Let me back up. I'm from Cleveland Ohio and I live in an apartment. I grew up with fresh water fish and this will be the first time I'm diving into SW fish. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thnaks

hi everyone. im mike and live in Illinois. i bought a 65 gal reef tank off of someone 3 months ago. it had already had a few corals and fish in it. since then i have replaced the oddyssea light it came with, with a 6x 39 w ati sunpower pro. 4 ati blue+ 1 ati coral+ 1ati purple+ i love it. not sure bout bulbs yet though. ha. i also replaced the coral life protein skimmer(not sure the size of it) just recently with an aquamaxx 300em (huge for my tank i think but it waayyyy better for what i had and i couldn't beat the price) i have a 30 gal sump i just put some chateo in but not much room now that i put the new skimmer in. haha. anyway. i am looking to be sps dominate. bought a frag pack from worldwide corals about a month ago. some are doing better than others. think i lowered my light down too fast since some are losing color. not sure. anyway. i absolutely love this hobby. tried doing it before but life had other plans for me and i had to abandon my last tank. im back again now on a mission. ha. thanks for letting me join.

Hello all, returning reefer after 15 year hiatus. Can I just say wow how things have changed. I am super excited. Looking forward to guidance and acceptance ;)
My current build will be a 180g, crystal dynamics rimless. Still trying to piece together the remaining equipment...you know, sump, skimmer, lights, to control or not to use a controller, biopellets or zeovit or something else...etc.
