Hey everyone...I've been a member for years but not much of a poster...got back into the hobby with a jbj 28g HQI...tank set up for a couple months....Frogfish and some corals....hey is there a livestock classified on this forum...I need some frags! haha

Hello, please help with chalice problems!!

Im trying to start a small family business selling frags.Ive been in hobby for 2 years and thought that was enough.Apparently not.
I have a frag tank that measures 12 " high and have 400 watts 20k metal halides 18 inches above water.The tank has been running for 12 weeks.I have a powerful protein skimmer,berlin filtration system and refugium.
HOWEVER...My corals arent doing well and am losing them.I mostly have chalices.I had them at a medium flow with moderate lighting but that didnt work and now i have put them under the halides directly with heavier flow and are still losing there color!I have no nitrates or 0.No phosphates calcium and alkalinity are there normal parameters, magnesium too.I am even feeding them gut filled rotifers and amino acidees once a week.
If there are any experts that can help me or if you live in Miami area i will gladly pay for a visit. Or help in the right direction.

hello, wannabe reefer from west texas, I have had plenty of freshwater experience but trying to get into the SW game, Have done a few nano/pico tanks but never did corals, just inverts.

So anyways been out of the hobby for a few years now and would like to try and make a nice reef tank, gonna go with a cadlight 22 gal to start out and will probably go alot bigger down the road once i get it figured out.

plan to do lots of research here (great forums/ site btw) should have plenty of time to figure out what i want to go with while i wait on cycles and such.

Hello, my name is Marcus. I have had saltwater aquariums for 10+ years. never anything to extreme but now I want to start building a nice reef tank (110) and a large predator tank (265). I will be on rc often looking for advice.

Hi all!

I'm Ryan and I just joined. As of this morning, I now have my first cycled saltwater tank!

I was looking at my parent's freshwater tank when I was at their house for Christmas and thinking how great it would be to get an aquarium (I had one as a kid but that's it). Then I started thinking saltwater and, of course, everyone in the room discouraged me saying, "it's too hard, it's such a pain."

I thought about it and realized that it's probably like most new interests in life: intimidating at first, but more and more rewarding and less intimidating the more you learn.

So, I spent about three weeks reading everything I could find about it and finally came across a 50 gallon all-in-one cube (has built in sump and cheesy protein skimmer) on Craig's list for $300 (complete with 12 x 24" 24w T5 strips)! Seemed the perfect way to get my feet wet.

I put some un-cured live rock in it (45 lbs) exactly three weeks ago today and this morning for the first time, my levels were: NH3 0, N02 0, N03, 10ppm.

My LFS has been great throughout this process and has been quarantining a pair of black onyx percula clownfish that they received that I new I had to have for about two weeks now. Hopefully they'll be coming home today or at least this week!

So, even just watching this tank cycle has been a blast and very inspiring. I look forward to learning more as my tank progresses and I'm sure that I'll have plenty of questions for you all.

Back in the water

Back in the water

Not new but returning to the hobby.
Previously had salt or reef tank/tanks for 20 years.
I had to take a break from it due medical condition.
Now that am better,I can dedicate the time that it takes to suceed in this hobby. So, I'm back and just bought a new 54g corner set-up.
 
Dear all

I have been reading here for a while, but only joined today.

Since September 2009, I keep a tiny but well-loved nano reef of 7 g / 27 litres.
I want to learn a lot more before ever considering setting up a larger tank.

For now, I enjoy reading, and trying to grasp the general chemistry which is important in the SW area...

Apart from that, I am mainly interested in the small critters that hitchhike in with the live rock. :-)
