Hello~ Nice to meet y'all... I'm Euni :) and I live in Los Angeles. I have a 28 gallon nanocube; It's actually my bf's *aj1980*, but I'm a bit obsessed with it now. I would like to learn everything and anything I possibly can regarding tanks. It's awesome that there are forums for this, and I can't wait to absorb as much knowledge as possible. I love fish, I love corals, and I absolutely adore ANYTHING regarding marine life.

Im making the big jump from marine fish only to reef. I admit when i jump in i really jump in. I must have picked the hardest tank to setup. Im trying to set up a 36 gallon hex tank. So far i have jbj k2 150 watt Hqi. and a spare fluval 305 filter. I was thinking of buying the following to finish the setup for a nice reef tank
Reef Octopus BH1000
Koralia 2
GFO
Rox 08 carbon
what do you guys think

ok i have everything but how do i set up the two koralia 2 one facing each direction on a timer to make it go one way then the other? one near top one near the bottom? isn't 600gph gonna make a vortex?

Hello reefers!
I'm new to the community and to the hobby. I just started a 50 gallon in January about a month ago. Things are going great in my tank so far. I just added a green BTA and he's hiding under a rock so I worry about him, but hopefully he'll show his face soon. You'll see me throwing all kinds of questions out here soon enough. For now I just wanted to say hi!

start off with one at the back pointing to the surface, you can add the other if the water movement seems slack, any of the sides will do for starters, whilst the tank is in its early stages theres plenty of time to experiment

well hello back at you, unfortunately unless your an experienced reefer and have experience keeping BTAs yours wont fair well, the tank is a month old and probably not ready for a nem yet, they need pristine water quality and light, it can take 6 months or longer for the water to get to nem levels, if you are a beginner then it may be wise to find a buddy with an older tank or take him back to the store for a while until your water gets to the standard required, im not criticising at all, just trying to help, hope he does ok, good luck and welcome to the forum

Hello everyone,

I've been lurking around for the last few months, and thought it was time to finally register! I'm a beginner reefer. I've done freshwater for some time, but I felt it was time to make the jump to saltwater. I started out with a little BioCube, but I felt it was time to move on something more exciting.

I spend almost all of my time at home at my desk, which is really more of a table. I'm building a custom tank (59" x 9" x 16") to fit the dimensions of the desk. It's going to go along the back. The tank is about 30 gallons. In addition, I have a 15 gallon sump with a 55lb 8" deep sand bed, a skimmer, and calcium and phosphate reactors. It's all powered by a 1200gph pump. Lighting is two 30" pc fixtures with 50/50 65w bulbs, for a total of 260 watts. The tank is going to be mostly SPS. Fish will be a pair of Ocellaris clownfish (tank-bred), a yellow watchman goby, and a Kaudern's cardinal (tank-bred). They will be added in that order.

I will be adding about 20 pounds of live rock initially. I am concerned that the width of the tank (8" interior) will lead to problems down the road, so I am considering a man-made dry rock background with special spots for SPS to be mounted.

All in all, I expect it to be a fun adventure! The size of the tank and the narrow width make for an interesting challenge, but I'm pretty sure I'm up for it.
