Hi Poland
[welcome]

Watch out for that Spring water. It is often just carbon filtered tap water. Insist on RO/DI. :D

Hello!

Hello!

Hi Everyone

I'm a newbie to the aquarium setting, although I did have a freshwater fish when I was younger this is obviously a very different game. I bought a 50 gallon tank ( I bought around 2-3 months) I have bought the following items.

Magnum 350 Filter with Biowheel
Seaclone Protein Skimmer
Megaflow Sump
CPS Siphon Overflow system ( I didn't have a predrilled system)
Elite heater
T5 Lighting System

Today I have put in the salt water and tested out all the equipment everything works beautifully, except the filter which I will look at it carefully. I am planning to buy live rock later this week and then maybe a couple of days later the sand substrate.. after that HOPEFULLY some fishes!! I still also have to buy my test kit and thermometer. If anyone has some tips for me let me know.

Shweta
P.S. How much live rock should I buy?

Hi Shweta

You'll need about 50lb of LR and someone to lecture you on the biowheel, and need I say it, Seaclone. ;)

New to reefcentral

Hi all new to the forum and the hobby!

I'm actually an internet marketer and have been making a little money from selling tanks online. as I've been going along I've become fascinated with the hobby!

I really like the idea of starting a reef tank, and would love some info on how I should go about getting started, and what tank would be good to start with.

Regards

James

The best starting point on here is to read Water Keepers articles on the thread below this one

Just wanted to say "Hello". I'm not new to the hobby but new to RC. I'm usually on Tcmas but finally decided to register here too.
So... HELLO!

Hi All, I have been lurking for a couple week now trying to learn as much as I can before I start asking questions.

I currently have 2 55 Gal fresh water tanks and really want to start a nice reef tank.

Hey guys I'm chris, I don't have a tank but may be getting a 135gal this summer, so I'm trying to learn as much as I can. I made a thread for any suggestions or ideas so please post. Look forward to talking with you guys.

Hi

I'm Leslie. New to the hobby. I'm actually starting a small 29gal tank. My friend/roommate has been into the hobby for over a year. He gave me his old tank and is helping me start it up. Just last weekend got the tank up cycling the water.

I joined reef center in order to learn more of the hobby and network a bit. Looking forward to it.

Now that's the type of Newbie I love. Doing some research before visiting the pet store and buying a new tank plus five plastic bags of fish and inverts.

Hi everyone, my name is Derek. I'm very new to the whole marine tank world, so I look forward to getting advice from all of you. I currently reside in Houston, TX in the Spring area. I've been working on setting up my first marine tank, 55 gal... and so far its been pretty awesome! I'm learning something new every day, and I'm currently in the process of getting my sump/refugium set up and working. So anyways, hello to everyone and thanks for the warm welcome into this amazing hobby.

hi-derek, nice to see you here on the forum, would be great to see some photos when your up and running

hello there!! new (ish) to reef aquaria...worrysome problem...

Oh no!!
one of my hermit crabs has seemed to have wedged himself into a crevice in the live rock and it seems neither i nor he/she can pry him free....
im a month into the salt water hobby after a long break.. im armed with a fair bit of knowlege in the sport, but this is a weird problem of a physical nature!!
ideas??
hes been there for around 12 hours, his two other crab buddies like himself have been up and on the prowl for hours....
