japanese zoos the next craze?

they got some really cool looking neon pink ones, nothing like you guys have been posting though with the "ring" around the eye. I want some of those.

Like some have said here prior to this japanese craze, MORE POLYPS will be hitting the market now and in the near future. stuff like you've never seen before, better color etc.....

Or they start showing up on RC forums with colors that have been around forever but with "deepwater" or Japanese prices. What is the deal with people charging more based on location? I've seen this with Aussie acans as well, look the same as Indos that are half the price but nobody wants those because they aren't cool anymore. Nothing like paying to get raped.

I'm not touching that subject anymore. Everytime I talk about prices, names, LE, rare it becomes a blazing battle.. hobbyist vs. people/hobbyist/retailers that sell a lot here ebay/RC/CL so on and so on. Its a never ending thing. I hang up my cap on that subject. Will concentrate more on help topics only now, concentrate on growing my corals to give away to my local club with the onus of passing it along for more growth and NO PROFIT.

BTW- IMO, I buy for color, look and pattern. Not ever the name or where it came from, who it came from etc

i agree i have been buying frags not for name etc., i buy for color. like at the MR frag swap this april i am only selling 5.00 frags not by the polyp frags. the club memebers get the deal. not to many of us around it seems anymore.

Not to high jack but a multiple times I had reefers come to my house and leave with 2 -3 shopping bags for of coral for free. I used to give corals away. some one will buy 1 - 2 frags but I give them 3-4 frags as well. ( and to anyone else , I aint trying to be all high and mighty ).

Not sure what photo's you are referring to, but all my colonies are doing very well. Think I lost 3/4 of one colony, otherwise they all look as good as the day I bought them. Seem to grow onto liverock rather quickly also.

DJ---are you handling any of these?

onegreenray, 650-IS350 ,

I totally agree with your comments and I've personally seen how this affectionate Hobby has turned more into a money making industry.

I for one would collect corals what I deem colorful and pleasing to the eyes and NOT because Oh ... that "whatever Special Named" exorbitantly prized Coral ..I gotta Have It ... hhmmm .... let's see .. frag 'em into tiny little pieces and make a Small fortune .. Quickly!! Yeah .. that's It .... Money making concept!!

True and Sad that most of the posted picture(s) of even a decent looking coral(s) .. would always .. ALWAYS end with .... Hook me up with a Frag or is that the famous ....??!! I've seen numerous and countless infractions with many Warnings on RC .... yet these people (reefers and some LFS alike) aren't afraid to repeat(offenders) over and over again.

Pure Greed and Not a Single Bit down-to-Earth True Hobbyists ...

650-is350, I have a tendence to give away a lot of frags too. A bunch of the local guys gave me frags to get started and I remember how happy I was so I try to pass on that feeling to others. Probably one of the reasons I prefer to trade. I have very few corals that cost me more than $30 and those are mostly lps and a red planet sps that has changed color. Besides, trading and giving away helps to ensure that others have some in case my tank crashes and I need to restart a colony.

jade i have done that as well. all my club members out here are very giving and generous people. the place we hold our meetings the owner of the building has four big tanks setup. he donates 25 frags a month to the club members for free. what ever happened to the fun in this hobby.

glad to hear that there are others out there that aren't just in it for the buck..lol.

I was just wondering why I lot of the pics show 1/3- 1/2 closed up colonies?

They are much more sensitve to closing up from movement then most other zoas.

I don't understand why when something new shows up everyone gets upset and talks about how much it cost. Yes the prices were a little high on these when they first showed up. But that is supply and demand. Now they are all over and most go for around a $1.00 a polyp. I think that is a pretty good price for some nice colored zoas. Yes many are simialr to others out there. But so are so many of the zoas we collect. They defintly have a different look to them.

I love those! And at least these pics aren't supersaturated like others posted here. I've gotta get out to my LFS this weekend & get me some!
