Jebao Cross Flow Pump

Thanks. Thats what I have mine set to as well for now. I have mine set at 5th LED light (50%?) for a 5ft span and so far it seem to provide a good amount of flow. Hard to tell since its opposite of one of my return lines

Frag tank is 48-50 ish inches I have been switching between 4-5 notches. 3 feet wide and I get adequate spread.

So... How does everyone feel the gyre compares to a rw20?

I have a standard 210gal (6ft) that has two RW 20's and one wp60 right now and I'm debating adding a gyre or another rw20 to the mix. Thoughts?

I don't have the jebao unit, but I did just replace 2x Jebao RW8 with one Maxspect Gyre 150 and I was much happier with the flow I got from the RW8s. While the gyre does an excellent job at the surface and the sand (my sand is the cleanest it had ever been), the middle of the tank seems to get significantly less flow.

I do think that the gyre idea is great, provided you have an additional pump(s) to make up for the middle of the tank.

Ok so I'm a little under a week in. I have lowered the speed almost everyday as I am getting a little sand movement on top of some chalices. I am down to about 60% and all seems to be settling in. I still have all my other power heads going as well. So in total for my 180g 6' tank I have 2 MP 40's(1 on each side) set to reef crest and 80%max, 2 WP 25's on back wall set to else, and now the CP-40 on continuous about 60%. There is come major flow in this tank right now. I might shut down the MP-40 I have on the same side as the crossflow. And I think I'm going to switch to one of the more random modes to see how this go, especially with the MP-40 opposing it from the other side, should make for some nice chaos.

And real quick on the noise issue. Mine is dead silent. I can hear my Mp-40's just standing anywhere in the room or even outside it. I have put my ear right next to this and still only make out a slight hum.

I'll update again as more time goes by

I'm kind of thinking the same thing that while the gyre is a good pump/design, on a bigger tank it may leave the middle of the tank lacking flow. Maybe I'll just add another RW20...

I too might switch back to my RW-8's as I've noticed one of my zoa frags that I really like hasn't opened up since switching to the cross flow. Coincidence, who knows but I will give it some time since it's been less then a week for me. Another reason for me is that I liked having the RW's linked to my Apex so hopefully there will be a adapter soon like the ones for the RW's.

Ideally, I would use both types of powerhead. I would have opposing powerbeads on either side of the tank and the gyre on the back. No matter what I feel about the flow in the middle of the tank, this thing does produce an insane undertow. My sand is spotless, not a speck of detritus anywhere.

Well looks like I will be going back to the RW's. As much as I like the amount of flow the CP-40 produces, I love having the RW's ran/controlled by my Apex. I'm sure eventually there will be an adapter for it but I'll wait till then and then see. If anyone is interested in my CP please PM me.

I have one at each end, un-synced running W3 mode. This seems to be creating really good, random flow in nearly all the tank. The middle (mid water) is the slow spot now. It is mid water, so not really affecting any corals, but I'm wondering if I should find somewhere to put an RW.

They are certainly a different type of flow to the RW's and I noticed that Gyre users either loved or hated the flow, probably in equal measures. I think having them un synced in a wave mode helps with random flow, but can see a larger dead spot developing in the middle with a longer tank than my 4ft.

I'm going to chase up Fish Street on the apex module again as this is the key thing missing for me.

I've spoken to a guy who has stripped his down, he has explained how, so if I get a minute I will try to replicate and post on here.

Update: Apparently the Apex module is coming, next on the list after the wifi-sync version of the pump is released. Still no date yet though.

This is good to know that eventually they will have one. Hopefully they come out with a smaller version of a CP and I can run a dual set up without creating a sand storm in my tank, haha

Wow 180 bucks plus shipping?

Call me a cheapskate, but that does not seem like much of a savings over the genuine article on Amazon for 215...

I was hoping for sub 100 dollars considering you can get two RW-20s plus wifi for less.

If I understood right the CP-40 is supposed to be more equal to a xf-150, not xf-130. The wattage falls right in between the two. The XF-150 is $260 on amazon so you're looking at about half price. It's not the usual jeboa discount, but its still a pretty significant savings. Still, I think at half price I would just stick with maxspect.
