This is one of the best investments ever. I made the inlet and outlet tubes about 5ft long so I can blow and suck at the same time. ( I know I know, get your minds out of the gutter)

This thing is awesome. Cleaned out the sump, blew out all the rubble, cleaned the rocks in the display and then polished the water all on one charge. Really easy to set up and charge and then backwash. Having a pool company I won't be buying those tiny bags of DE though, they are a little overpriced.

I recommend to everyone.

Love these filters! They have been around since the 1970's maybe even earlier?

I have to get one, thanks for the reminder.

Love mine, u can even run it without the powder for heavy cleanups

I still have the original glass jar from a 70's model that my father owned. The motor crapped out and we tossed it but i kept the jar thinking i would replace the motor some day. Ended up buying a new XL. Great tool, using mine right now.

Josh, that really is a good idea. I usually use a shop vac to clean sump but I like this option as I can use it more frequently.

Umm I'm newbie...

This sounds interested..

Whats purpose to using it for tank? Clean water ?

Do tank size matter ?

thanks
Jake

Josh below is a link to a kit i bought about 8 years ago from walmart. I rigged the wide brush up to the intake hose and used it to scrub rocks. The fittings that come with the kit are smaller in diameter than the hose on the diatom so i had to put a piece of hose between the two in order to make it fit snug. Reducing the intake side diameter will reduce the overall performance of the filter but it still worked great for reaching patches of algae in tricky locations.

If the link doesn't work, go to walmarts site and type in Shop Vac Micro Cleaning Kit.

It filters down to a super fine particle size. I used it to vacuum my sump and my rocks. You can also set it up, stir up the tank like crazy to get all the detritus suspended, and then let the filter run for a while to clear it up and get rid of all that junk. Just remember to keep stirring it every now and then and you really can clean a lot of stuff out of your tank.

I wouldn't use it continuously on a reef tank because like other filters it will start creating nitrates, but its great for that once a month or every couple months of cleaning and clearing.
