So now that you're finally happy with it (for this particular 15 minute period :)) any future plans?

Those clown eggs in a somewhat accessable spot? Maybe a little hatching and growing setup is in order.... Consider it a challenge :)

now that i am happy with it... i will have to start weeding out colonies :(

the eggs... i would break two acros trying to get a tile down there for the clowns to lay eggs on.

the PBT is beefing up... most of the fighting is over... he likes to chase a scribbled rabbit here and there, but no harm done. He gets nori and a homemade blend with spirulina powder in it.

major plans involve a new house and we are still a few years out on that one, but i have the wife keeping an eye out for houses with a basment or an extra room to be a tank room! :)

hmmm, I wonder where they will have to go. :D

Little update :

I think i have found the sweet spot with my radiums. I am at 10hrs now and I am pretty happy with growth and color. There are 2 corals still giving me a bit of trouble color-wise, but there are other variables besides lighting involved with those.

The "feed a lot" and "remove a lot" method seems to be holding well. I am still skimming aggressively, but not as wet skim as i was. Also, I am keeping up with running rowa and swapping out about 1 cup monthly. Going from biweekly water changes to monthly water changes seems to allow enough "crap" to be in the water to keep the corals fed well.

Equipment note: I got an aquacontroller 3 last week. I love this little thing. I dont control anything with it yet, simply use it to monitor and send me alert messages via email and text message on my phone. The graphs are really cool in aquanotes... shows how dead stable my pH and temperature are. I also get an ORP reading now. Dont really know much of what to do with an ORP reading.... seems to hang around in the 360s.

Thats about it .... if i dont have any new pics to post... i will just use this as a little tank blog about my thoughts on stony keeping. (thoughts that used to change a lot, but are settling :) )

Dont think this has been covered, but sense you keep coming back the the "feed a lot" and "remove a lot" method wouldnt ozone be used in your system? Or is it allready and your just trying to keep a few secrets for yourself :)

no ozone...... i know the basics about ozone, but am not well versed in its use nor the need for its use. I have yet to come across a definitive argument that knocks me off my feet to make me say "hey, i need ozone."

An ORP of 360 is awesome without any ozone injection. Most people strive for 400 with ORP and usual tanks stay around 250 to 300 without.

yeah.. delbeek and sprung write in RAV3 that ORP should be around 350-400.... so i guess i am ok.

whatdya know... something that is going right with no intervention on my behalf!!! :)

285 here without ozone on a well calibrated probe.
I use a monster 902 Deltec but still 285-300 on a 12 year old reef.

This is sort of off topic but I just wanted to give a big, I mean huge thumbs up to Kip:thumbsup: He really gave me some nice frags. Far beyond what I expected so thank you Kip and it was a pleasure meeting you in person.

Good luck on the house hunting. Having a basement to put the tank in is very nice.

Thanks again,
Bill
