Kessil A360WE

Here is a 3 part LA Fish Guys episode covering my install of 8 Kessil 360WE's on my light rack and the setup with my Apex using Apex Fusion. If you view them directly on YouTube, you can watch them in HighDef
.

I'm very happy with my A360WE, and am looking to supplement with a couple of T-5's.

Anybody doing that and have some favorite bulbs?

Finally got around to adding a pair of 360Ws to my tank this weekend. Would have happened last week but I fat-fingered my order and got a pair of 360N instead - arghhh! For now I am adding them to my current lighting scheme. I'm going to really like them, I can already tell. Two initial reactions are that as a point source shading is going to be an issue so rather than selling off my reefbreeders lights I think I shall continue to use them. As a 'line source' they should be quite effective at fulling in the shadows. My second reaction is that I wish they dimmed down lower before shutting off. Seems to happen at about 12%, as others have noted. Seems like it ought to be a technically solvable problem. I have hooked the pair to my Apex with the variable dimming module. Even as a Stone Age user (non Fusion; I have firmwareupgradeaphobia) the ability to adjust intensity and color independently is pretty slick). Even though the reefbreeders may coexist, my MH lights, that I use 5 hrs/day may not be long for my tank. The Kessils really are as close to MH as any LED I've yet to see. May need to order a third.

Glad to hear you finally got them. You've been threatening to for a while now.
They do put off a pretty insane shimmer don't they?! Glad you like them. It's a shame you're not close by. I'd come over and update that Apex for you. I will say though that I know what you mean when it comes to being upgradeaphoebic. It took me a long time to bring myself to upgrading to fusion ready F/W when my Apex was working fine before it. I'm glad I did though. I'm pretty proficient when it comes to programming custom profiles but Fusion made that process for the Kessils stupidly simple. So much so that I was kind of shocked as I planed on creating a bunch of profiles and spending good time doing it.. Instead it took me just a couple minutes to creat profiles for both color intensity with several ramp points each. It's also much easier to make a quick adjustment via fusion than editing profiles via the native interface. I really like the fact that you get a visual of the ramps via the graphs. Fusion makes doing tweaks (something I'm sure you will be doing more of) quick and easy. Just adjust a point on a graph up or down for intensity and left or right for time and hit upload. Add a point on a graph, set the % and time and you have a new ramp point. It works that way for both color and intensity effectively making it brainless.

I'm just worried about bricking the thing in the process. Did that onetime with my video scaler and had to send it back in for service. I've become too reliant on apex, probably, but it all works pretty well and I have no real issues with the programming, so I'll leave well enough alone for now.

Im looking for lighting for my upcoming build. Its going to be a 36x36x30 cube. Would i be better off getting the A360N or would the A360w be better? Also how many would you suggest for a mixed reef with maybe a clam and a few SPS later on down the road.

I'm supplementing my kessils (2 a360w and 2 a360we) with 4 t5s. I'm using ATI bulbs 2 blue plus, a purple plus and a coral plus in following configuration.
Front:
Blue plus
Purple plus
Kessil
Coral plus
Blue plus

If I was running just 2 bulbs I would probably go 1 blue plus and 1 coral plus.

Kessils with SPS

Kessils with SPS

Everyone...need some help with my photoperiod for SPS growth.

I currently have a 65g tank and 2 Kessil 360we that are run on the Kessil controller. My tank consist of the following corals and fish...

LPS is a Scolymia, Torch, Australius, Wellsi, 3 Ricordea Florida, 2 Yumas. All are on the sandbed. Fish are a pair of Ocellaris Clowns, 3 cleaner, mixed snails, and 2 small scarlet hermits.

I just added my first SPS GARF Bonsai. With trying to keep both LPS and my new SPS happy, am concerned with burning out the LPS and keeping the intensity up for the SPS Bonsai. So, I have decided for now to keep my LPS on the left side of the tank, and my new SPS on the right side of the tank. I know that once the GARF is light acclimated (coming from SPS dominant tank with T5's), then I can play more balancing out the LPS and SPS lighting.

Before adding the SPS, I was running my Kessils at a max of 35% color at 40% intensity ( I know that sounds low, but all of the LPS are happy right now). With that being said, I need some advice on increasing the intensity and color on the right side of my tank for the SPS GARF Bonsai, which is placed on a ledge midway up on the rock work.

So in essence, the left side of the tank that has the LPS will have a different color and intensity setting as opposed to the right. I know I will get some bleed off, I think that with having the goosenecks angled a bit, I will be ok.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated, especially since this is my first SPS coral. Flow is covered since I have 2 powerheads on a wave maker, giving the SPS good flow.

Im looking for lighting for my 80 gallon build. Its a 32x24x24 cube. Thinking about getting a Kessil 360WE. Would i need more than one, for this size tank?

I have one on a 24x24x13. To get even coverage over the size youve mentioned you will need to mount it maybe 10 inches above the water, which may mean the lighting isnt bright enough to grow sps. So If it was me I'd get two which will give you better spread, less shadows, brighter light, and allow you to mount them lower.

Two would be a little over my budget, but maybe I can pick up a pair, on one of those Black Friday Sales online.Thank’s for the advice.

What's the spread on these fixtures. I have a 48/48/24 cube that has softy and LPS in it

You would want 4 of the 360WE's. They cover up to 24x24 so 4 over your tank would give you great light and intensity towards the center of the tank while giving great coverage along the bottom right up to the edge of the glass. Depending on how you position them and if you can aim them slightly towards the center, you wouldn't any shadowing at all.

I have two Kessils 360we and I think the light is beautiful. The shimmer is great. Color is also nice. I have a newly started reef with just three corals I put in my 55 g tank. I really want it to work with these lights. My concern is that I have not seen so many success stories with LPS and especially not wit SPS. Ok I have seen a few who had success with Kessil but also seen people describing bad growth, browning and burning.

I have an ATI 4x39W in reserve to complement the Kessils. As said I really hope it will work with just the Kessils for several reasons.

I would hope that all reefers with really good experiences with kessils and corals report back. How long do you have had the Kessils and how do you judge them?

Hello!

Can someone please comment on the noise level form these LEDs?
I received mine and both units are pretty noisy... definitely louder and more annoying than my open case PC. So I suspect they come form a bad batch or smth... There is a silence from Keesil for more than a week...

And maybe someone knows... How can they be disassembled ? The worst case scenario - I want to change those fans to something more quiet.

Thanks!

I have been running 3 on my 180 for a year now and have never heard any noise from them. I would say mine are extremely quiet.
