It's absolutely the case. Dunk your head in and see for yourself. :D

You can put some white paper on the outside of the tank in these areas to stop this for now, but most wrasses eventually get over this obsession. Not all however.

Just a tip that has worked well for me: Sustainable Aquatics pellets (0.5mm) seem to work great for feeding smaller leopard wrasses.

I hope he stops the pacing soon, would he do better with another same genus friend in the tank?

I've been reading they're social fish and pacing is a bad sign. He is eating everything I put in the tank though. But he goes to sleep at around 630pm which is kind of a bummer since I only see him for an hour or two.

Is your lighting on a timer? They will adjust to your lighting schedule after a little while. Mine had to adjust by about 4ish hours from the lfs lighting schedule. Consistency with a timer is key.

Just added a Ornate Leopard in my tank two days ago. It's eating frozen mysis and blood worms but it's also pacing quite the front of the tank a lot, in fact most of the time.

It is eating though heartily and will once in a while go pecking at the rocks but it spends 95% of it's time just going up and down the front glass?

just added these guys a week or so ago......x5

the behavior of yours thats usually a sign of stress.......capture, shipping, acclimated to the store, capture, acclimated to your system, new friends, new menu, new home.....its a lot .....with leopards IMO #s and a mature system are the key and I would never add them in less than 3s.....

Yeah, he is doing much better, almost never paces now, explores the whole tank, eats even more. Goes to sleep at around 830 now.

Tony Vargas posted his acclimation/QT technique on RB for Chaoti's:
http://************.com/2013/02/02/australian-leopardwrasse-quarantine-technique/

It's the only Macropharyngodon that I haven't been able to keep long term. His method goes against everything I've ever done for successfully keeping other species of this fish - which is to drop them directly into the MD.

Anyone ever tried this method of changing the photo-period slowly in a tank with no LR or LS for a Chaoti? I'd be interested to hear the thoughts of those who have kept this fish successfully.

so i just picked up my 1st M. Meleagris, was trading some things into the petshop when i ran across a barebottom tank with the leopard, lfs had him about a week and it was out cruising the tank pecking at the rocks and ate live brine with a gusto so i decided to give it a shot, ive read this whole thread and cant wait to keep this updated with my progress, my tank is a 90g macro tank that has been set up for about 10 yrs now with a 2 to 3in sand bed. I acclimated for roughly 2 hrs and as soon as i added him to the tank he started to explore and is picking at the rocks non stop, he is the only fish currently in the tank but this will become a wrasse tank, i have a pic on my phone and will try to figure out how to post

I got this Kuiter's from LA 2 days ago. Despite its bloated belly and red spot on rear end; I put it in DT directly.
The fish has been up and eating mysis, brine shrimp well; but it has white stringy poop, and the belly seems to be more swollen.
Since my other fishes began scratching on sand, I've dosed Prazipro last night, will run two full treatment 5 days with 5 days break.
Does anyone know what cause it bloated? Any input is greatly appreciated.

im downloading pictures as we speak but alittle update, she was out and about all mourning constantly picking at the rocks and glass and has a nice plump belly from all the pods shes eating, i am going to try some pe mysis later on in the day

I think the idea that leopards must go straight into the dt is a bit misguided. I qtd mine in an established qt with live rock and live sand.

This is true !
I have 2 leopards Macropharyngodon cyanoguttatus and Macropharyngodon lapillus the first one is over a year in my tank
First i put the fish in a QT then i give the fish a 5 day formalin treatment after that 4 weeks prazipro tearment . Then lastly i give the fish a 8 day bucket method with sand

I have been successful with and without QT. At the time the DT had a lot of copepods and both times it took sometime before they started to eat prepared food.

I need to correct my earlier post.

I have been successful AND unsuccessful with leopard wrasses. I tried with and without QT.

3 week update, my meleagris is still active as ever not skitish at all and constantly on the hunt for pods, still isnt eating other food to well but i have pe mysis and ova comming in, she went on the lamb for 2 days and i figured i would never see her again but she poped out of the sand and hasent gone mia again in about 2 weeks
