Leopard Wrasse Primer

yes we will see and time will tell . really tried to get some opinions on rc about the mud but two treads and nobody keyed in so its not a thing that many have done .i really didnt see anything wrong with doing it and even saw a bunch of deaths before i began trying to figure it all out . wrasses are touchy at best and i just thought that i was having a bad string of luck .hindsight ,what a concept . i will let ya know how the three wrasses do in the near future . the china pearly is a real difficult wrasse to keep and the yellow tail tamrin is extreemly difficult ,almost impossiable to keep and the radiant wrasse should be easy so we will see. i have my work cut out for me but always am up to the challenge . funny note ~blue zoo just put the choati leopard wrasses on the list for sale but i will probably have to wait till next spring before i try them again cause i lost so many that its stupid to try now before i suceed in keeping something alive in that cursed tank for at least four of five months . wow probably $2000.00 lost in that tank in half a year ..............................oops .

Hello this is my first post here. I was wondering if it was OK for me to add 2 female leopard wrasses at the same time? Will one eventually change to male?

welcome and yes it is okay to have two three and even four f male leopards in the same tank provided it is large enough and there are plenty of hiding place's . there should be minimal aggression between them but it is best to add them at the same time or you could have some aggression but it usually will no escilate into anything to be concerned about .keep in mind all fish are different and need to be observed in the begining for both health issues and aggression twards their tankmates .if you add a second or third its best to do a bit of aquascaping to help the newcommer .

and of corse please ask many questions and use this website for you pleasure.good luck with the wrasses ,as they are the best fishes in the ocean !

yes it is definatly possiable but i have had five fmales for three years plus and none have turned inti males .and i had a single fmale in another tank turn male without any other fmales in the tank so there is no 100% guarentee either way but it can happen and the best luck to ya too !

steve i think i will treat them for everything this time ! no really i will be using prazipro and jungle jims anti parasite food . if theres anything that you think i have missed please give me your 2 cents . i wont take any offense as i am learning every day .

Do the male and female choati wrasse differ in coloration?

yes the juvies and females have a black patch outlined in yellow over the operculum while the males patch is green outlined in yellow. also males have a blueish green and yellow forehead,along with green and orange alternating stripes on theirfaces,with blue green and orange on theirdorseland ventral fins . most are white with red markings except for the above differences as far as i know .

I think Prazipro is the most important treatment. I would, however, check to make sure they are eating/hunting in the LFS. Other than that, you should be good to go.

well i just got them into the tank after a three hour acclimation and dip at the same time . so i already added the prazipro and removed carbon and skimmer for the next few days . the fish look great all three are beautiful ! two small females and one slightly larger male ,my wrasses totally accepted the newbies into their home as expected .lights dimm tonite and i have some live brine that will be gut packed with prazipro to get them started eating tomorrow .two have staye out for at least an hour now and the third went into hiding upon entry as was expected . all of them are frollicking together much better than expected but will they live is the question to be someday answered . hopefully much later in my life they will be with me as i have a few wrasses that i have had for sevsn years and counting . i will get a couple of shots wed or thurs when i get a second .

It is doing great. If you look back one page I posted a link to a video of my tank. You can see the choati cruising around and competing for the algae on the clip.

not sure on the size issue but i got two small and one medium , thats what the wholesaler had in order for me to get three as i asked Tim to do at ABC reefs and he did it ! that guy can get any fish that you can dream of . its amazing how many times over the years i have tried to get some other LFS to "special order" fish and it seemed impossiable for them to accompany my requests but Tim and Dave go out of their way 24/7/365 and now they have a very knowledgable employee Jeremy that has everything ship shape .ITS ABOUT TIME SYRACUSE GETS PUT ON THE MAP !!!

Just wanted to post my Leopards since I am also a wrasse nut and how long I have had them. So far they have been excellent reef fish for me.

Ooops, forgot to post the other info asked in the first post.

Purchased place: LFS which picks out fish from LA wholesalers.

Introduction: Straight into tank for both.

Tank: 75G SPS dominated Reef (30"x24"x24") with DSB.

Attempts: 1 previous attempt of a Bipartitus.. didn't look good at the LFS but really wanted to give it a shot, never saw it after it buried in the sand the first night.
