i wish you the best and thankyou for the nice picture ! i like the dark sandbed i have it in one of my tanks but havent done any others yet. i think you just lit a candle under my butt to do a couple more, looks great i think .

I hadn't looked at black sand in a while. Seems like not long ago the only available was the Fiji moon sand that was so fine you couldn't run much flow. What you see there is Arag-Alive Hawaiian Black. It is a nice mixed size.

I just got a new leopard wrasse!

My apologies for the poor blurry quality and dirty glass.

Voracious appetite for frozen mysis? Check!
Friendly tank-mates? Check!
Successfully buried himself in sand at bedtime? Check!

I think that's about everything I need to worry about. Looks like my first attempt at a Leopard Wrasse is going to be a hit.

Keep us posted- I met that checklist and had two die after a week... these things are random.

tylt, what were your leopards tankmates? i purchased 2 from LA, the first died w/in about 2 days and the 2nd is still alive about a week and 1/2 later nut not eating as varciously as when i first got him. he still eats live brine though

From a sand perspective you should be fine. There are other much more important factors such as copepod density.

well, i have a 350 display with another 150 sump with a fuge, i have too many pods atm - they are obstructing the view, i need them gone :)

good food for them if i must say . my tanks are wiped out ! empty of all pods and i keep adding cultures of them weekly ,cant catch up .

wow just found this thread and it is great!
i have kept a Macropharyngodon bipartitus for over two years, he is a beast, loves to pick all day and cruise around with my yellow coris. tank is 125 mixed reef. puchased from lfs, was eating mysis at store.
i apologize if these questions have already been discussed in this thread but it is huge!
1. how can you sex leopard wrasse? (in particular mine)
2. can i try and add other types of leopards with my current one?

on a side note, i have had a mandarin for 2+ years as well. sometimes i forget he even exists, i honestly dont even know if he eats prepared foods(im sure he does but i never pay attention), but i do know that he is very fat and active. it is the smaller spotted kind.
also, can someone plz post pics of each kind of leopard and rank there specific difficult if possible? thanks!

also, what other wrasse would everyone suggest to go along with my well established leopard and yellow coris?
i was thinking maybe a green coris, another leopard, or a flasher? maybe even one of the more peaceful fairy ones.

Quick question guys- can I keep a.male meleagris with a male bipartitus? I currently have the bipartitus and have the male meleagris available. Has anyone else had luck with two male leopards in one tank?

mystery reef ,you leopard wrasse is probably a female . it had a black belly as the one pictured above on this page and also on page 17.and the males turn blue and green striped with a great squiggle down the body as on page 8 of this tread . yes you can add any leopard with your current one just dont have two males of the same one and you will be fine.all above mentioned wrasses will be fine with yours .the prazi pro is done as the instructions state ,i never Qt wrasses because they are to delicate for that so do it in your display tank . all of thease questions have been discussed in this tread ,i would suggest you read it from start to finish it will be quite helpfull .:eek1:

tylt33,you probably can keep two males but be advised that there may be aggression issues and male/male are just asking for trouble . however i have three males in a tank and they havent been at all distructive . there has been chasing ,flashing and a few incidents during feeding but they havent hurt each other and all are doing very well so i may have lucked out .

Day 4 update

Day 4 update

I have not seen the new leopard wrasse at all today.

At last viewing he was eating frozen mysis with a fury, seemed healthy, and all my water parameters are in check.

Is it possible he will just stay burried for a day or so at a time.....or should I consider him a gonner?

I'm very depressed to say the least.

to my knowledge, give him some time. i had a coris hide for a week and is now a champion. be patient, maybe he got spooked or is adjusting to your light cycle. if he was eating already than imo you have a good chance.

My Ornate Leopard Wrasse hid for almost 1 week before coming out from the day. It takes time to adjust to the new light cycle.
