Panicking in a trouble situation…. Only making it worst. I know this has happen to a few good reefers.

Worth repeating. Heck, we've all done it at one point or another. It's natural to want to fix things when something is off, but it's usually a good idea to step back and assess the situation before taking any actions.

Other than that...

A faulty relay on an ATO is not fun.

A faulty heater is not fun.

No one has also said the biggest issue for SPS keepers; SPS corals :uzi:
Especially how they are very temperamental and how there are so many variables that we can not even test for in our systems that can cause them to perish.

Dude don't even go there-- I just had a clear reminder of that exact scenario when my bulkhead started leaking.
The bottom line is if you have a tank there's going to be some issues along the way-- its part of this wonderful hobby. I've had my fair share of them over the last 15 or so years.

BTW I still have nightmares of black tangs/burgess/and all kinds of high end fish floating around that household.

That tank is back up and doing great.

I hear you. I still have random thoughts when I open my front door that I will face the same thing from time to time.

How bout 44 gallons of Kalk being delivered to tank over night when you accidentally left the LiterMeterIII pump to 'ON' instead of 'RUN'. Was still calibrating my LMIII so topoff was a guess. Lost nearly ALL livestock....Sickening but not enough to drive me away from the hobby

well the house hit 90 and the tank melted my softies and killed my fish.
stray current almost everytank has it at one time or another.
buying a used tank and having the left seam blow out at night and loosing 180 gallons of water and thousands in fish and corals and equipment .
the depression that comes with every crash .

How about when the city starts working on old pipes and it causes old irons, zincs and coppers to be in you RODI water as your filters can not cleanse it all? That one is frustrating.

Forgetting the RODI is on when filling up ANYTHING = downstairs neighbor asking why they have water leaking down their kitchen walls.

and.. RODI + alcohol = bad mojo.

here's a couple:
-corals being at war with each other
-sea urchins aka bulldozers
-forgetting to turn your powerheads back on and you come back hours later and everything is sliming
- not doing frequent water changes
- and lastly the annoyed feeling when you spend lots of money on something and then it doesnt grow at all

Good one Chris. Even sans alcohol this can be a problem. Setting a timer on one's phone can help avoid this issue. :thumbsup:

Pumps failing causing a burning smell to come from your sump
Not replacing halide bulbs after 9-12 months but instead waiting over 18 months. Then bleaching and burning most corals in the tank.
Not testing cause "you know your tank"
Forgetting your ro is making water and flooding.....
And one for me was switching to Reef Crystals from HW Reefer or Pro Reef because its cheaper. Its not, now I need to dose iodine and potassium to keep color.

Painting the back wall of you newly assembled 350 gallon tank just hours after siliconed it.
Then filling the tank placing all your goodies from the 125 gal you upped from into it not realizing silicone is a natural thinner and silicone takes 24+ hrs to cure LOL!!

Heater can get stuck on.

Good to have it electronically controlled.

Temperature probe been pulled out of the water by "someone" (probably the cat) while you're traveling Result: 90 F for two weeks.


And in general, making things too complicated regarding to equipment and additives etc. I think it doesn't benefit the fail-safety of the system.
