Look what my dog ate!

So last weekend, my 11 year old Labrador retriever was not acting like himself, namely he couldn't hold down his food and lost interest in eating.

We took him to the vet and they did some X-rays: They told us that his stomach was full. I figured this was impossible since he hadn't held down a meal in over four days.

Long (and expensive) story short: The vet opened up my dog and emptied his stomach. Check out the contents:

I couldn't believe it. It's actually a continuous strand of carpet fiber pulled from a cheapo carpet in our entryway (with a few of my daughter's hair ties in there for good measure).

I double-checked, and nowhere in the AKC papers can I find where it says he's half billy goat!

And after that vet bill, the stinker better live another 11 years!

Egad! Better keep an eye on him now... a dog that belongs to a friend of ours developed a taste for large dish towels and loaves of bread. The thing has had a few surgeries now and putting the large plastic collar on him when they leave doesn't help. He just uses it as a scooper for whatever he wants to eat...

Did you have to ask them to bag up the contents for you or did they volunteer that prize? lol

They actually cleaned them off for me before bagging them up. Whole new meaning to the phrase "doggy bag".

This is really weird and out of character for him. He's never been a destructive chewer or anything like that. In fact, he pretty much sleeps all day when we're not around.

By no means do I think he learned any sort of lesson from this. He is a lab, after all.

Maybe he needs more fiber in his diet now...? My doctor tells me that sometimes food cravings are your body crying out for a missing ingredient. Not sure that it's always true cuz I've got a sweet tooth and I'm sure I already get plenty of sugar in my diet. :D

Dogs eat the darnest things, :) My puppy already consumed a portion of one of my sandals, half the buttons of the remote control and can't even list all the things he managed to destroy in the month and half since we got him.

Scott at the end of the day I am sure you are glad the dog is ok.

my parents husky loves loaves of bread. It will jump on the counter to get them. It has even jumped on the counter, and somehow gotten them off the top of the refrigerator.

My newfoundland gets stuff off the top of the fridge very easily. He will knock into the fridge until the item he wants falls off. He once got a tray of twice baked potatoes that i had put up there just so he couldn't get them.

My lab has done the whole hand towel thing another really fun one was the stomach full of horse manure that was vomited inside. Labs rule.

I have a half pit half rottie who likes bread as well! She just waits till u look away and steals you sandwhich or anything in your hand for that matter! She once ate half a bucket of salt! That wasn't a fun night!
