mag flake?

yeah , i was trying to find it locally to save on shipping, i did a search on dead sea works mag flake and meltsnow. com was second listing so i wrote them and asked where i could get it in 12477 zip, he said i could buy 48 bags from him , lol, i said i wanted 1 bag for reef tank, well that started the lecture...........ill try some of the others

I ordered it from Harvey salts.Randy listed sites where you can get it.It cost me $15 for the bag and $20 to ship.I hate the fact that it cost me more to ship it but I am saving tons of money in the long run.

MAG is getting hard to find this time of year. It doesnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t seem to be very popular around here (KY) even in the winter, everyone I spoke with has never heard of it.

I was able to order a 50lb bag from here.

The woman I spoke with was very nice, even though they were out of stock, she said she would find a bag somewhere and call me back. The call was returned about an hour later and it should be here on Monday. It is a bit costly to ship, but I am just tired of looking for the stuff.
I hope that I didn't just eliminate my source by posting here. I ran across the same attitude with a couple of companies who were probably tired of getting calls from us Reefers. (Please be polite people) At least I am set now for quite a while.

Man, there was a ton of it at my HD in VA. I haven't looked, but I imagine its been put away. We had a real mild Winter and I doubt they sold much of it. I grabbed a bag, but haven't used it yet.

TRYING to buy some from Harvey salts. If they ever call me back, I assume I'll end up with the 50 lb bag for $35 (including shipping).

Here's an offer to folks (and I hope I am not breaking any rules here). If anyone else would like some of this, give me a holler. I suspect for my 55G tank, I could probably get by with something like 5lbs (or less) over the course of the next year.

So, PM me, IM me, email me, whatever. I can package up a 5 lb bag or so and ship it out at cost of your chunk of the product plus shipping cost. I'd probably end up charging a buck surcharge per order for my efforts, or my wife will be mad at me. For some reason, she doesn't seem to like me doing these things for free.

My quest for Mag Flake just got MUCH more interesting. After having HORRIBLE luck anywhere else in searching for Mag Flake (for instance, Harvey Salts quoted me a total of something like $65, including shipping), I called the folks at SnoMelt.com. I got the same nice lady.

We had an interesting conversation. She was wondering how many people would be needing Mag Flake, if we can do group buys, and so on and so forth. In the long run, I ordered a bag with a total for product + shipping of $50. A little costly at a dollar a pound, but very hopeful nonetheless.

Anyhow, she talked with her boss and got permission to get a pallet of Mag Flake shipped over to her office to make this easier to send out. As she phrased it, "Post on your website [reef central] that we've got Mag Flake for you aquarium folks". Or something like that.

Furthermore, I talked about how a lot of us would LOVE to be able to buy smaller bags of the stuff - like 10 lb bags. She actually suggested that she might be able to rebag and ship out 10 lb bags of the stuff. Now, these bags would be unlabeled stock bags they have their. But to save money on (mostly) shipping, I know I wouldn't care. She has to check that out further before moving forward on that front.

Anyhow, just to lay it out straight:

1. It is DEFINATE that she can sell 50 lb bags of Mag Flake for $50, shipped.
2. It is IN THE WORKS for the possibility of smaller bags.

Anyhow, I am sure you can get the stuff cheaper at Home Depots in the winter. However, I thought it was very cool how much this lady was interested in helping out. Or making a sale, but you know. :)

and this is indeed the dead sea works mag flake in randys article correct? id be interested in a 10 lb bag pronto

Waiting for them to get smart like most companies. Take the 50# bag of product that costs $20. Put it in 50 1# plastic containers. Slap on a pretty label with a picture of Nemo. And the most important part...put the words "For Aquarium Use" on the label. Once you do that, you can change $20 for each 1# container.
