Mike's 200g

here are the few top downs I got. I didn't do any post editing only resize so these are exactly as they came off the camera. was during the day at the highest and whitest time in my light schedule.

Bought this piece as purple rosaria....not seeing purple but the matalic green sheen is kinda new. it wasn't very colored at all before and it was one that I had noticed bite marks on before. I don't see them anymore (let me know if you spot any I cant see) not sure if purple will come with higher light or if it is just going to be gren.

unknown freebie frag that was brown

New maricultured dragon type acro. unfortunately came out blurry. Just a frag I got of the mini colony (in father in laws tank)

Pink and green millie I have had for a long time showing very strange new growth that doesn't really look like millie growth structure

tips of this "blue dragon" type coral turning a really beautiful sky blue color

pearlberry. color not showing nearly as nice as it actually is

this I think is a coroliana. this acro did have bite marks on it. I still see patches on skin with thin or missing tissue but I do not think they look like bits anymore. not sure let me know what you think. The coral is showing good p.e especially at night and seems healthy.

one I am very happy with right now. this I got for 20 bucks it was a brown as brown can be literally no hint of any color. a fairly good size branch... now starting to show some nice color. I hope it continues to develop.

another dragonish type acro with nice green polyps

this one I never taken a pic of before. its a big piece I have had it for nearly 2 years but never had good color.... I think I see something starting??

red dragon branches up close

that's it for now. next time I will prob do some post editing on shots for sharpness and maybe some color correction. just couldn't be bothered this time.
any way I'm going to continue the aquaforset products ive been trying and just let things grow (hopefully)

Wow! The color on those corals is outstanding! That Pearlberry is to die for!

Thanks Matt. However that one I think looks even better in person. My main wish right now is that I had some of these colors more apparent when viewing the tank front on not just top down.

Sorry i missed the recent addition to the family Mike. Big congrats to you and your partner buddy :)

Those pics are awesome, things are going well by the looks of things. I reckon that acro is a lokan with such rounded tips and wild growth, A. caroliniana looks like an echi table when it grows and has the same very delicate corallites - about 1/16" in diameter but longer growing. :reading:

It looks yummy whatever it is Mike

Mike, congratulations on the new baby girl!
That's fantastic news!
Your latest coral shots also look fantastic!
The new growth and colours look really good.
Your corals are very pleased with you, indeed!

Congrats sir on the new Michael frag! All the best to your family. The corals are looking great, I have recently switched to AF also and am seeing big changes in colors and health.

Ok, so looking for a little help from the community. Those of you with shallow sand beds, what are you doing for cleaning. My tank is doing very well, corals are looking great, growth is good, I just have never been able to keep my sand looking nice and white. The sand gets a brownishdiscoloration on top. Currently I stir the sand bed now and then and use turkey baster to shoot water into it to stir it up. After doing this it looks nice and white again but gets some brown again after a few days. I have nass. Sails, a sea cucumber, and a sand sifting star. Maybe I need more? Any way wanted to know what the other sps keepers who manage to keep sparkling white sand do?
Forgot to mention I use tripod Eden reef flakes as sand.

Michael,
Congrats on the baby girl, man that is awesome buddy!!!
Glad to hear you are going with the AF program, your corals are looking sweet!!!

Mike, I'm doing the same thing for my shallow sand bed, minus the cuke.. I don't really have anything for you.. Any burrowing wrasses? In the evenings, I often see them wagging through the sand to stir it up and eat whatever comes out..
Nice fts, by the way.

I have a leopard and melanurus that bury in the sand. Its so.ist like the surface of the grains just gets light film brown algae on it. I guess very regular stirings will keep it looking really white, I just wondered if there were other ways to keep it really white

If you are talking just the light brown haze on the sand, thats pretty hard to completely eliminate without moving the sand around. Nassarius snails are kinda worthless, Queen Conchs are better. Cukes are great as long as they stay alive. I used to use a small paddle on the end of an acrylic rod to lightly stir from time to time.

I've had my cuke for 2 years now. He was in my 90 gallon before this tank. If you look at the last fts you can see a little bit brown on the sand what I mean...on the right hand side. I need to actually add more sand as it's beta in some spots after I cleaned my pumps and some removal from siphon. I think my dresses hardly have any to bury in. I may make one area deeper for them...no problems with this right?
I would think lowering nutrients would keep brown away but my nutrients measure 0.2-0.5 no3 and 0.02 po4

I would keep my dresses in a closet. But that's just me:p

Lol stupid auto correct.
So basically to keep sand white and beautiful you stir it a lot? Any one else manage to keep white sand with a different method?
