Mike's 200g

Lol stupid auto correct.
So basically to keep sand white and beautiful you stir it a lot? Any one else manage to keep white sand with a different method?

Pretty much, yes. Ideally you get critters to stir it for you, but anything that stays in once place without movement will eventually get a little growth on it - just like your glass.

To keep my shallow sand bed clean I vacuum it every week when doin water change amazing home much crap comes out. I than stir it once or twice a week if I see a brown spot or two show up. Also have a few small conches, sand sifting star and the wrasses love to throw the sand around.

Thanks for the input. Sounds like the consensus is just stir it up more often. When vacuuming the sand bed do you use a special sand vac thing (bigger tube in sand with small tube into bucket) or just a hose and try just take top layer off? I have tried with hose but end up mainly just removing the sand completely or getting no junk out either.

Thanks for the info. I might have to give it a try. My sand bed is really shallow so I don't know how well it will work or not but I will give it a go.
You will have a very hard time using one with fine sand. They work well with gravel but fine sand will be sucked up pretty easily.

I use tropic Eden reef flaakes, which are not super fine. I guess I may just get the same benefit by stirring the sand up real good and having the junk get in the water.

I am adding 4 t5 s to my radions (2 in front, 2 behind).
They will run only like 4 hours during mid day.
Looking for ideas for bulb combos to use with aim of improved color in corals (growth not as important) mainly looking to maybe pull those extra few different pigments that leds are not able to get.
I was thinking one blue+ and 1 coral+ in each fixture... Or swap one of the coral+ for a purple +. Any thoughts?
Good idea? Bad idea? Different bulb reccomendations?
I was planning on leaving radion schedule as is as I am getting good results, probably just drop intensity a little bit.

I would go with 1 blue+ and 1 coral+ I think it's a good idea adding t5s. I bet you'll see some good results

50/50 Blue plus/coral plus is the way to go. I think 6 hours would be more beneficial than 4;)

Thanks for the quick replies guys. Blue plus and coral plus it is. Matter which order in the 2 fixtures? Like the blue plusses closest to radions in center? Other way round? One of each? So many questions.... Never ran t5 before.
I will try to work up 2 6 hours then... Probably start like 2 hours for a couple weeks and then add an hour biweekly?
We did just receive a par meter so this well help with getting the led intensity right. When using a par meter is it best to turn off all flow, or, leave pumps running?

Its pretty hard to hurt anything with T5s, its not a slow acclimation thing like MH or LED. I take corals home and throw them under the broiler with no ill effects.

Yup, Blue+ and Coral+. Order of placement doesnt matter too much as the tubes will be right next to each other I presume...though I always tend to place Blue+ on the outside. Obvious best way is to stagger B+C+B+C+

One thing for sure: your tank is going to look brighter and the T5's are going to help fill up a lot of those shadows.

You should also see stronger red/pink pigments. Keep us informed on how the corals react. :)

Thanks guys I am looking forward to it...and if red pink pigments become better it will be well worth it.
So plan will be (front to back). Blue plus, coral plus, radions, blue plus, coral plus.
Keep radion schedule same?

I took some pics yesterday. Just need to upload them to photobucket and resize. Hopefully I will find time tonight.
