I've created flat spots on rocks using a 10" Flat Bastard Cut Metal File, works like a charm for smaller areas. Cheap too!

I use a 5" grinder with a cheap diamond wheel made for tile cutting to slice through LR like it's butter, gives you very stable bases to rest on the tank bottom.

I have a ATI Sunpower 6x39W with 1x KZ Fiji Purple, 1x AquaScience DUO, 2x AquaScience special ca. 15.000 K and 2x AquaScience blue ca. 20.000 K.
And yes, I have additional LR in my sump, but not really much. Most of the space claimed by the algae.
