I am also thinking to limit the rock in my upcoming new tank (125 long). I was going to toss the remainder into a rather large sump system. I probably have about 180lb of rock (80lb is currently live).

While keeping it minimal, I won't go too sparse. I figure I can do around 75lb in the display, give or take. I'd like some rock for corals and critter hiding spots, but have a decent open sand bed and plenty of swimming room for the fish and for a clam or two to settle in.

No pics yet.. painting the hood/stand now and plumbing still to be done.

I got it from BRS. It's 40lbs of reefsaver rock and 20lbs of pukani rock. Yeah I was quite surprised that I got that much rock for that poundage. They may have given me an extra couple of pounds, but 60lbs is what I ordered. It came really fast too in 2 days (I live in OH).

pukani rock is supper light compared to reef saver that's why you got so much more rock per pound.....how do you like it? I just bought a ton of it for my new tank....

Now that's what I call minimal. Just a few questions:

What size tank is that?
How many pounds of rocks is there?
Do you have any other biological filteration?

Its a 240, hooked into another 220 with a 180 gallon sump.

no idea how much rock is in it per weight, not much.

The other 220 tank it is hooked to has a similar amount of rock, and I have another 20 lbs of rock elevated in the sump with good flow through it.

I run no other biologicical filtration. I dont run GFO, nor use refugiums. Just high flow BB systems with skimmers.

Ive actually had this notion in my head for some time now, ever since I moved over a year ago. I am just now gettign around to re-setting up my main display, which is what you are looking at there

In the weeks to come it will transpose into the more or less 3 year old reef it is, with lots of large colonies. Mounting everything is going to suck. haha

You cant see them, but there are many other hole choices in the floor of that tank, and I can move any rock you see anywhere else I want in the tank 100% secure and stable in seconds. The end product as far as rock placement will no doubt vary a little. Im just going to start moving stuff over and see where it takes me
