My 240g FOWLR

Actually, yes, a couple fish, including the Rock Beauty have had some long poops lately :) I take this as a good sign, and am likely to adopt these meds as standard protocol on my QT from now on.

Peter, what is the active ingredient in Paracide-X? I have been looking online and can't find it, even on the National Fish Pharm site.

Have you thought about using something like API's general cure so you can do the prazi/metro together or do you feel you get added benefits from feeding it?

What is your dosage when adding it to the food, how much good to how much product?

They don't list the active ingredient on the website. I'll check the bottle when I get home, with my magnifying glass  (Anyone who has any small containers of medication from them will get that joke).

My thinking is prazi probably is doing the trick for external stuff. I'd like to get the metro and the paracide X inside the fish, so I put it in their food. NFP gives directions for both meds on the link above. Obviously with the metro I'm heavily approximating since I don't make a pound of food at a time :) My thinking was that metro is quite forgiving if overdosed, since it is one of the three ingredients people often use directly in food to try to cure ich (no comment - that's for another thread).

Have you ever considered the effects cupramine might be having on our fish? I use it in my quarantine protocol, but might start looking into the Cloroquine Phosphate route.

I always thought people claiming that it had negative long term effects had little basis, but now that I lost my Potter's with no explanation i'm starting to wonder if they are on to something.

I think if you search the forum you'll find many people that say cupramine is a no no with dwarf angels...

I've heard that, but the Potters was treated more than a year ago and hasn't been in cupramine since. That's why I was wondering about the long term effects. Of course, the Eibli in the same tank that went through the same treatment has had no issues so far.

That's my story. Both flames went through cupramine, albeit low dose. The female is still fine.

Peter, quick question about your treatment for internal parasites.

I've been following along here and decided it wouldn't be a bad idea to order some Paracide-X from NFP. They were out of stock, but the pharmacist there said that pure praziquantel (something I have on hand) dosed into food would do the same job, maybe better. Any reason you didn't go this route instead? Praziquantel is a powder, but is packaged for dosing to koi ponds, and so it doesn't have dosing instructions for marine fish food. I was told to "eyeball" it, which is why I haven't used it yet. Thoughts?

Yes, actually. Because I'm familiar with how fish lose their appetite (sometimes) during prazi treatment, and once I bought the dry food that comes with prazi in it, and the fish wouldn't go near it! So I figured they likely wouldn't go for food laced with prazi.

I have a product from NFP called praztastic and I am suspicious of it for a number of reasons.

It's a powder and is very difficult to dissolve in water, I end up using vodka.

I've also put the fish currently in my qt through three rounds with 7 day intervals in between treatment periods and they still have flukes.

Lastly, this powdered form of Prazi never produced the appetite suppression so many people report. Any thoughts?

First thought? Lame name

Honestly I've never heard of it though, so I can't comment.

I use prazitastic when I'm out of prazi pro. It is a bear to get dissolved. I seem to have the same results as prazi pro though. All around I prefer the Hikari brand.

I second the lame name. I wondered if the difficulty of dissolving it had anything to do with how effective the treatment is.

Good update: The falcula now swims freely around the entire tank. The semilarvatus doesn't pay any attention.

Also, got some new pics:

Great update :). How well do the declivis get along? Quite a size difference.

With regards to oral meds, do you know of a replacement for Gel-Tek Ultra Cure PX? It's what I'm using now, but the bottle is old and I understand its no longer available :( it's a mix of praziquantel, flubenol, and metronidazole . It also has fish pheromones to entice feeding. I really like it as I can soak NLS pellets with it and fish seem to readily feed. I'm hesitant to use prazi on new fish until they are feeding well but sometimes treating parasites is a priority, a real catch 22.
