My humble SPS journey - Shallow 80g

I'm very jealous of you high end equipment Josh...........

Very nice selection of gear mate!

Thanks guys, I am trying to do this tank right.

Here are some photos of my favorite colonies that I got to frag from, these photos were taken by me and are 100% true to what they look like in person. Though I can't say the same for all of my frags right now. ;) Most of these were Australian wilds.

Yes it was more of a salmon pink and yellow undertone, I hope to achieve this same coloration in my new tank. It's not the usual coloration of a SSC but I can always get another frag, I love how unusual this one colored up for my brother.

This photo truly didn't do this guy justice, and to be perfectly honest with you I think it hadn't hit its full potential so we will see how things turn out.

and then of course Red Planet... obviously not a wild piece. ;)

I plan on only using frags in my tank, specifically buying from Adam at Battle Corals. As much as I love watching wilds and maricultured pieces transform I will enjoy watching them grow from nothing more.

I will post some of the other pieces in my next post.

Some more that still needed time to color up to their full potential.

Again, just to reiterate, I only have frags from these. Thanks for reading guys, hope you enjoy.

You'll force your brother to switch to T5, or at least hybrid. :D

Before he decided to take a break from the hobby he was going to go T5 himself, but right now I'm the only thing keeping him from selling out completely.... a good deal of my livestock is sitting in his tank, he's sold all of his. :p He has travel plans that he wants pursue and not have to worry about a fish tank. He also faced a lot of adversity earlier this year dealing with a chaotic mess from a tank crash when he had an anemone dominated tank. I truly think that wore him out since treating expert level anemones on a large scale like that is a lot of maintenance, and them getting reinfected because the tank never fully bounced back kept him doing a few hours of work every day for about a month or so before he just gave up. By the time things started to get better he burnt himself out, so hopefully he'll be back in a couple of years when he'll be in a better situation. :)

Stand progress so far, still need to finish painting and poly. I'm going to do a two-tone inside of the stand with a different color. I'm thinking something along the lines of a sea green/aqua color, but not too bright and in your face. I'm not done with the doors yet, I still need to sand some and stain them, they will be stained grey.

That's it for now, lots left to do... Thanks for reading. :)

Excellent equipment choices! I love my mp40s and t5s. Looks like you had some nice corals to take frags from. Looking forward to seeing this all come together

I think you're going to like that skimmer, I've had both the Co-2 and Co-1 and have not been disappointed.

You have some amazing looking colonies :)

Thanks, I am really excited about my equipment choices and the starter frags I have to get my tank started.

Thanks you! I chose the CO-2 because of all of the reviews I kept reading about it, it seems like a really popular skimmer. The colonies were my brothers, I just snipped a frag from each to grow out and color up. It will be interesting to see what they look like 6 months from now.

My sump came in! I ended up going with the Tideline 36 by Trigger Systems. I didn't know about this sump until like a week ago and when I did I knew that was the sump for me. Thanks to Fragtastic Reef I was able to order one of these beauties and they shipped it to me in perfect condition, I couldn't be happier!

I will take another photo of it later, enjoy. :)
