My not really a 265 gallon perfecto/432 watt t5 sps reef

LOl yeah man I see you change your tank all the time. Well when you say work on your tank do you mean the stand and canopy?? Or like the tank itself, cause if ya gonna work on ya stand and canopy I have to give you a hand with that, if ya remember thats my payback to you for doing my plumbing in my tank!!!!

YEAHHHHH cant wait for those Tunzes, the day is finally comming!!! Ive done so much reading on them and read tons of opinions on them and EVERYONE says how GREAT they are, and how the act just like the tides and all that jazz. Thats awsome, thanks man for keeping me in mind for them!!!!

I got the tunzes and I mean working on the stand and canopy. and adding more light probably just to try and see if it makes a difference. I can always turn them off if they don't help.

Thats awsome man, Alright so am I going to help you with the stand and canopy? I will if you want me to....I have 2 pure attinics T-5's Im not using, Im going to sell them if you dont want them. Would you like them?? When is a good time to swing by??

Hey Rob, Thanks again for the Tunzes!!! I cant wait till I hook them up, but Im going to do that after we have cake and presents for my sons b-day...Ill let ya know how it goes!!! Ill also hold those T-5's for you.........

I love you aquascaping. So much open room for fish to swim and corals to grow!

thank you very much I am waiting for lots of growth. also think if I add a couple pieces in the right place I will have more room for more coral species. right now I am pretty full as far as number os corals. size has a long long way to go.

Your tank is really looking nice! I've been following your progress because I've been interested in your success with T-5's and SPS. I'm setting up a 180 and plan on using T-5's instead of Halides. I'm also interested in that you're using Advance ballasts instead of the popular Icecap's.

A few questions: You said the advance ballasts are more efficient than the Icecap 660 and that the Icecap had negative effects on your SPS. Can you explain more? Was the negative effects on your SPS because the 660 was overdriving them? Also, how tall is your canopy? It looks like your lights are about 12" off the water. I was under the impression that T-5's needed to be only 2-3" off the water.

Again, nice work.

Miles

thanks miles. the ice caps were fine while the bulbs were good the bulbs just didn't last long at all. I am actually adding 4 3ft bulbs right now just to see what happens. may need just a little more intensity . the way I am setting it up will average 6 bulbs from front to back. supposed to be as powerful as a 400 watt halide. no clue yet I will know in a couple hours though what it looks like. the closest bulb point is 9 1/2 inches from the waters surface. closer would be more powerful but this is working but I am hoping colors will be more intense. if not I will turn them off. the colors were getting extremely nice then I overdosed amino acids from polyplab and really did a number. thats the great thing about companies that don't do real research on there products and leave it up to the consumer to kill things and give feedback.
negative effects were from old bad bulbs not just because they were on ice caps. you wouldn't think 4 1/2 months I think it was would make an old bulb but that is what i found with the 660.
advance and alot of other ballasts are out there. not workhorse and not ice cap yet that run the bulbs and fire them the way they were intended. look for program rapid start. but if you still want to over drive with ice cap I have a 2 months used 660 I will sell for $125. 12/06 is the manufacturers date.

ok I just added 156 watts of t5 lighting. 2 aquablue plus and 2 actinic plus bulbs. they are 39 watt 3 ft bulbs. now I have a total of 588 watts. still not bad for a so called 265. here is a before and after pic.

Beautiful, Rob I just now saw your thread... just glanced through it didnt reall get to read. But of course I will go back... It came out nice though. Do you have any full shots including the stand and canopy?? Are you finished now??

Joey

thanks joey it will never be finished it seems but as for the stand and canopy thats a no also. I have been so busy this season. when i get some time off I just want to sit around or spend it with my girlfriend. only tank time I have had was going to buy corals and stuff and regular maintenance. now I am also doing alot of research trying to figure out what camera to get to replace my nikon 4500. I have it between a canon rebel xt , nikon d70s and an olympus e volt something. there is way too much to buying a camera. if anyone reads this in the next few days and has some real why's and why nots I would love to hear them. I am off to the photography forum with some questions

thanks for the link. after that I still think the nikon is for me but we will see. I posted a thread in the photography section about which one. that link says with the bundle lens the nikon is better so that is my thinking for the moment.

Cool, it looks like it goes back and fourth... Some peolpe like the Nikon, some people like the Canon. I didnt think it could be that complicated...but man are those lenses expensive. Good luck.

thanks dougie now if things would start growing and coloring up I would be very happy. some corals started to really take off and I could almost see a difference daily then I o.d'ed the amino's and things have come to a stand still. I have noticed the last few days it's possible things are starting to show a little growth again. I've got some really cool pieces lately like a miagee tort and a blue tip stag from tyree but they are both very small like an inch so. the tyree piece showed no polyps and was starting to recede in the tank I got it from but 2 weeks later and I see polyps. the intense blue is all but gone but polyps to me mean it may make it.
I got another allardi clown that is smaller than the one I have had a while and left it in my sump for about a week before adding it to my display. my existing allardi went nuts and beat the .... out of the new one. constant chasing for a couple days now things are calming down and the new one was in the anemone next to the original. lights were still out so maybe he wasn't spotted yet. I have been trying along time to get a mate.
