New AquaController 3/3 Pro Firmware

Curt - Thanks for the new features! I am really excited about the new graphing. I am heading out of town for several days so I don't think updating my ACII right now would be the best idea. I will give it a try when I get back though.

Would someone mind posting pictures of how things looks with the new firmware?

I'll post some images shortly...

Loaded up on the frag tank...looks nice! Love the idea of having the net set-up on the interface, will be nice not having to change e-mail addresses by hand in 2 controllers when we have a house sitter!

Now...I just have to figure out how to take advantage of the xml...guess I have to learn something new. Anyone have any quick tutorials on how to implement use of it to a website?

On my reeftronics.net website, I already have a working data collector & graphing framework I built for the XML data from... another controller model... which I'll be adapting to the AC3's XML data as soon as I can... maybe by the end of the weekend.

Awesome, please do let us know when you have. I'm really looking forward to being able to graph the outlet useage data! :)

I'm already doing that to a limited extent with the legacy data format... check out the graphs on this page; the temperature graph color indicates whether my main T5HO lights were on or off for each data sample. :D

Very cool. You've got to be excited that this will be easier with the new firmware then huh? It's been a long time since there's been something that has excited me enough to want to learn some new web related stuff. But, since work has closed down ability to get to any ports except 80 and 8080 (and my provider blocks 80)...I can't get to both tanks to check on them except via the signature generator from reefchat.org.

Thanks Ken, I did know about the graphs at reefchat (have links to them, didn't know you could just insert them as images). Don't get me wrong, I love that they have that ability, but I've always longed for a way to be able to graph useage of my chiller (desert dweller remember). I can basically tell by the temp graph, but it'd be nice to be able to calculate on/off time reasonably close. ;)

Ok, having never updated my ac3 is this easy ? Will I have to re-enter all the pertinent data like ip address and port setting etc ?

No, existing configuration should be retained but it is still good practice to backup information (eg., timers, program, etc) just in case.

Hi all -

Upgrade went great for me (though I had to use tftp) and the web pages updated properly as well.

Accessing the AC3 via a browser seems to be working well, except for the graphs. I am getting the error "Error loading file: data_default.txt". Is this because my log is empty right now? Should I just wait for more data points?

I got the same error until my data log had some input. give it till the next data registers and then take a look.

I'm running xp64 and couldn't get the flash to work the first few tries. Not sure what changed, but finally on the 4th or 5th try (exited the ac3loader program and restarted) got the unit flashed and webpages updated (though the webpage update worked on a previous iteration though the flash didn't). Anyway, just some anecdotal results from my tries. I've had other similar weird experiences running xp64 with programs intended for 32 bit so I'm not entirely surprised (wished I'd not "upgraded" to 64 bit, the only way back is a clean install).

If there is no data in the log then you will get this error; give it an hour and try again...

I've (personally) found that tftp works best but in many cases the issue with ac3Loader is that another DNS server is active.

I had issues last night until I realized that my cable connection was set to obtain ip address automatically, changed that to a fixed value and set the gateway to the same listed on the AC3 and it worked first try. Not sure if others may have missed this change to make the loader work, but I'll throw it out there just in case.

Could rss.sht and the 3 xml files be anonymously available (without authenticating)? Or, at least by implementation of a read-only guest account?

We have decided to leave it password protected for security reasons.

Curt]

Hi Curt,

May I ask that you kindly reconsider this? I understand why the current release password protected. There is no 'read only' version of the data. But with this new firmware release, the RSS feeds would be read-only.

Or maybe make the RSS feeds optionally password protected for those that want it to remain password protected?

There are a lot of nifty sites popping up these days that could really utilize this. Right now, you have to give them your user/pass in order to benefit from them so they can parse the html feed or even telnet in. With the RSS feeds being read-only, and viewable to the world, one would not have to give your user/pass to these types of sites. Thus the fear of a site getting hacked, someone sniffing out packets, or whatever, and having access to control 1000 tanks is gone.

Unless I am missing something, if the RSS feed were non-password protected, the worst case scenario is that I know the IP address of someone's AC3 and I could tell if their lights were on or not. But since I can't toggle their pumps off or chiller on, I don't see the concern.

Or is there something I'm overlooking?

Thanks!
-Jeremy

UPDATE, tried it like 10 times and it finally says 3.40s , YEAH

well knew it looked too easy. I still show ver 3.30s but have the newer screen on the left with the new option but all lines of "code" on the right.

And I can't figure out how to paste the screen to show you.

You mean DHCP server, correct?
