New ORA Release: Blue Iris Acro

well, to be fair ORA takes their pics in natural sunlight- I highly doubt the coral is brown. It's probably a very nice coral, it's just way too similar looking to a lot of their recent offerings IMO. They sure do like blue/green corals over at ORA.

+1, a lot of their corals come in brown as well, primarily in the summer, due the the intense natural light. Corals shipped from ora during the winter tend to be much more colorful upon arrival. natural sunlight sure does make their corals grow fast though.

Imagine how big their mother colonies must be, or how many of them they must have.

I think it has lots of potential. That looks like an Icefire Enchinata in 6500k lighting IMO...

Agreed! This will be a sick piece once it gets into some home tanks. I can't wait to get mine! :D

I have a feeling it probably has much finer branches than we think it does. I'd guess speciosa as well.

It looks like their blue voodoo and several other delicate branched corals that they have.

That is ridiculous! This coral doesn't look anything even close to any of there other releases. Show me a pic that looks like this coral that they have released prior. I've looked and I own a crapload of ORA pieces. This is a new ORA piece. It might not be new to the hobby, but it's new to ORA.

I agree with a previous poster it looks like an ice/fire to me. The coral I just paid $100 for a 1/2" frag! So if it is you should be thanking ORA for saving hobbiest $$ and getting larger pieces for the money spent!

This is the Ice Fire Echinata.

That has a very similar coralite structure. Not saying it's the same coral but the light ORA uses you really can't rule it out by their pics. I kinda hope it is the ice/fire myself.

agreed. they seem to like blue and green corals. maybe a little too much.

That's because a lot of sps are blue/green. It's hard to find that WOW pink/red coral. There are a lot more blue/green to choose from. There is a lot of time and effort spent to get a coral ready for release. Their mother colony has to be enormous!

The colors will morph in our aquariums. Everything can't be spectacular. But if this IS the ice/fire it will be one of the best things for sps collectors out there. It'll make this coral more reasonably priced. And you'll be estatic with ORA for it. The ice/fire is an expensive coral. But it sure is purdy, that's why we pay the price for it! I think everybody will be surprised how this thing looks once adjusted to our aquarium lighting. Just wait and see......

The ends of the Ice Fire are flat while the Blue Iris are rounded. Plus the Ice Fire has more of a cream/white base than the Blue Iris from the natural sunlight pic. We'll have to wait until some pics one up to know for sure.

FWIW, this is the Purple & Green Austera I was talking about earlier that looks like the Blue Iris. To the right of it is the Ice Fire Echinata (below the Chromis).

That is a very unusual growth pattern for an austera??

I just saw this coral at the LFS yesterday and it looks exactly like the photo released by ORA below. It's priced the same as the red planet. Nothing special if you ask me.

*edit* The frag was under an 8 bulb T5 lamp and still looked brown, it's ugly enough that I didn't even consider buying it... and I own most of their releases. Who knows what it will look like under 20k but I'm not holding my breath... will stop by again this afternoon and snap a picture for you guys, if it isn't already sold.

The pic I saw of it, the brown base in the picture above is very green and the tips are a nice blue.
