Mine seems to be a VERY slow grower, big surprise eh lol! Seems like all these ORA frags grow super slow.... Most of them anyway that is.

I agree with the slow grower comment. I have had mine for about 8 months and it is not even doubled in size. love the coral though and just ordered another frag from ora so now I have two.

Just found this thread, my Blue Iris has some pretty good size to it. I'll try to post a pic soon, never posted one before.

I have found the Blue Iris to be a fairly slow grower, especially early on. My frag has been through several changes, including upgrade from 55 gal to 125 gal tank, then switching from MH to T5 lights, etc. It's color has been quite variable, moreso than most of my other SPS that went through all the same changes.

Here is the frag I got from my LFS in September, 2009:

Here it is 5 months later, before the tank and light changes. It lost all of its green, which was sad, but it was a striking blue color. Not a whole lot of growth by this point....

Here it is today, almost a full year after the previous photo, a little over 16 months since I got it. It has picked up its growth rate, especially over the last several months. I really like the cobalt blue ends of the branches. The base of the branches and encrusted part have been tan/yellow for the past 6 months or so. It is slowly starting to get a greenish hue to these areas now, although that doesn't show up at all in the photo. I am hoping to get that rich green back.

Overall, I like the Blue Iris. I think the less than ideal color it has is due to my system. I don't run any zeo, vodka, bioballs, etc. Since I started doing my water changes via wet skim, it and several of my other corals are showing some color improvement.

Thought I'd revive this thread a bit.
I lost my original Iris frag (the second one offered by LA DD) due to a tank crash last July (you can see my first frag earlier in this thread). I purchased a new one that was about 1/4 the size as my original frag... seems like the frags from ORA got smaller and smaller since initial release. So here is updates with the second frag since July 2010

Since Jan I have had more branching occurring around the base of the frag.

I got a tiny frag of Blue Iris direct from ORA about 6-7 months ago. I have also found it to be a slow grower. I keep mine under t-5 lighting, about 6" from the tank floor. I have observed that the coloration is a very deep purple/blue with some green highlights. Almost reminds me of the Cali Tort coloration. Definitely one of my favorites.

nice. It kind of looks like my ora oregon blue tort, just less blue. that's why I wonder how this one's growth patter is. It's about the same size as what ORA gives for the torts too... so I wonder if it's a slow grower too, or small just because it's new. try and get a pic up with your main lights on tomorrow Thanks!

If your Oregon Tort looks like that is probably isn't a true blue tort from Oregon.

Yeah Cali Tort is a whole different coral from the Oregon tort.
