You can probably feed it directly from your over flow as well I think. Save having to get another pump to feed it.

D,

they are leak free and work great externally, metric adapters are available or 1.5" pool hose fits over the metric PVC on the RPS-2000.

Pyrrus

Can you measure your skimmer for me. Website says it's 26.5" tall.

I only have 24" to work with. :(

Thanks

I fired it up last night for a short bit to see how it ran. So far so good. The column was chock full of teeny tiny bubbles:D

Looks nice, lets see some skimmate soon! Dry skim!

I'll be a guniee pig, I just ordered 2 of the RC-3000's (one for home and one for my church's tank). Ordered from www.reeftanksupply.com ($767 shipped for 2 skimmers, not bad). I'll post updates when they get in.

P.S. How cool is it that my church has a 220-gal reef tank...that I get to play with :)

skotch, could you pm me with the distributor contact info in Woodburn? I am looking for some peices to the 2000, and I would rather go through them.

Ill take some skimmate pics tonight. I am running a 75g lightly stocked and it has been running for about a week and half. It pulls a fair amount of gunk. I replaced an ER 8-1 with this and I have to say they are comparible, but I dont think they are on the same level.

I would really like to see some gunk from someone who has a heavily stocked tank. I have a feeling this thing will pull some sludge.

drock- when you say they are comparable, but not on the same level, what exactly do you mean?

Do you prefer the RPS-2000 or the ER 8-1? Could you give us a comparison on build quality, ease of use, and skimmate production?

At this point i prefer the 8-1. Just seems like it was producing more but not by much. I think I was really expecting the recirc to blow the ER out of the water and it has not thus far. As I stated my nutrient/bio load is quite small.

Build quality on both is excellent. This is not a cheaply built skimmer as far as I can tell. The ease of use is comparible. I would prefer a gate valve but I should be able to convert if needs be.

Another note, mine did not come with the silencer. This is a KEY component as it makes a lot more noise than my ER. I just stuck my air line through the wall, under the house. Silent.

Overall, I am happy with the purchase, I just dont know if it was really necessary.

Another question: can someone explain why a recirculating skimmer needs only 1-1.5 times the tank volume for the feed pump. I am running about 4x for the feed. I wonder if that is limiting my production?

running too much water through a recirc skimmer will cause excess turbulence near the neck and cripple skimmate production. This skimmer is designed for a flow rate of around 200gph...skip

Ill put the mini jet 404 back on it and see if that helps. It is around 100 GPH so that should be about perfect. Ill let everyone know what kind of results I get from this.

As I said I am getting a similar skimmate production as my 8-1. Perhaps this will kick it in to overdrive. :)

These units look pretty nice. I'm currently using an ASM G1x with a recirulation mod on my 37, but I'm upgrading to a 90. I'm thinking of trying the RPS-2000 or the internal PC 3000. I'm wondering if either would be a worthy upgrade over the ASM? I'm not exactly happy with the ASM.
