What's the footprint of the 3000? I'm due to get one in a couple weeks. It looks pretty big - I hope I don't have to make any changes to my current setup to accomodate it.

I didn't read through thsi whole thread, but the skimmers look interesting.

Value and performance wise, how would the 3000 compare with an ASM G4x with a recirc mod? ASMskimmer.com has the G4x for $368. Add a few $ for recirc mod.

Value wise, I'd say it beats the ASM hands down simply because it can be run external without leaks. Some may say the ball valve isn't fine enough to control water level, but I haven't had any issues at all with it. It seems "loose" enough to make fine adjustments, unlike most ball valves I've had on my plumbing.

It took me a little while to get it all figured out, and I'm still fine tuning, but I'm satisfied with my 2000. Most of the guys posting in this thread all have the 3000.

Just my .02 cents!

Daniel

i am looking at my bubble size and I just dont think mine look as small as some of the pics you guys posted.

What should I look for as the main suspect? The venturi?

G, Tape a bic pen or needle on the body and snap a macro, then we will know for sure. You could try cutting the dwyer down a lpm or 3 and see where that leaves you.

When you make adjustments, give it a little bit before reacting too fast. That was my problem. I'd panic and screw everything up. When I slowed it down adjustments it was much easier to "hone it in".

Pics would really help though.

i have had the rps -2000 for 2 weeks running now and i love it.these really are good skimmers, and for the price you cant beat them.

OK, this is my first time posting pic's so I hope this works.
My 1000 the day after I set it up. I had it skimming very dry and I am still adjusting.

I see that this thread has become more of a Pacific Coast skimmer thread. However, I'm going to get an Octopus and do the recirc mod and save myself some money. I saw early in the thread that two UniSeals could be bought and two holes drilled to make the mod. Is there an explanation someplace that is more specific?

Pacific Coast Imports get their skimmers from the manufacturer of the Reef Octopus. In essence they are one and the same justa different label.

You will probably have to end up using a metric-to-US reducer union on the venturi fitting, unless you can find some metric uniseals. However, if you're planning on using the skimmer in-sump, you might be able to get away with just slipping the end of the venturi fitting through the closest uniseal. It might leak a little, but most of the water would come from inside the skimmer body.

Thanks guys. I won't be using it in sump...it's getting crowded in there. I had read a post that another guy made about converting the Octopus into a recirc skimmer (he just didn't say how he did it). Those $39 ASM upgrade kits are nothing more than PVC that I hope I can find at my local orange or blue store. I figure I should be able to do the same with the Octopus. I just have to see one or read a description of how to do it. On the other hand...I can spend the $$ and just buy the ready to use one.

Thanks for the pics of the direct feed, Covey. Hope it's working out well for you.

Jayreefer, which tank is your 1000 on? improvement from the one it replaced? Thanks
