Norwegian 133 g acrylic sps tank

Here's one of my favorites. Meteorshower Cyphastrea. Extremely rare in Norway.

Montipora Australiensis.

The only corals that survived the crash was a couple of Monti's, an Acropora Efflorescens and the Meteorshower Cyphastrea.

The two newest residents of the tank.

Finally got a hold of two Snowflakes!

I finally customized the white balance on the camera, and the colors where way more "real"

Pearlberry looks very nice, where do you get ahold of "named" corals in Norway? We have nothing like that in Sweden.

Hi Ormet, I'm not sure where it's origins are from. It's been in Norway a couple of years. The other "named" corals I have is from the states (private import).

Looks like a beautiful and healthy addition to you family. Congrats.

The SPS seem to be coming around nicely. That pearlberry looks really good.

Thanks Darryl. The tank is finally starting to look like a reef :) I'll take a FTS as soon as I get a new sump and the microbubbles from the skimmer disappears.

Found my macro lense yesterday. Here's a couple of top-down photos.

Here's what I hope is Acropora Suharsonoi. It has a really electric green color. Will mount it up on the reef in a couple of days. Think and hope it will turn over to a green/yellow color when it get more light.

IMG_0862.jpg

My Wet Thumb Acropora Efflorescens survived my mega-crash. Only a tiny bit survived when I fragged the mother coral. This has been recuperating in a friends sps aquarium and look very healthy.

Could this be an Acropora Awi? It's similar to Mr. PacMan or what they call it. Sorry for the over exposed picture.

On thursday I hope I can find a Chelmon Rostratus. I have aiptasia over the whole reef and are sick of manually removing them:uzi:

Nice collection, considering the unfortunate crash you had. I am glad you got the Pearlberry; IMO this is the nicest coral you had.

Try and kill the algae in this photo. It can be VERY tough to get rid of if it starts to spread. Kalk paste or a local dose of Hydrogen Peroxide should do the trick.

Keep the updates coming when you can. Be nice to see how this system develops compared to the T5 system.

Congrats on the new member of the fam. Corals lookin good :)

Thanks. Congrats to you too :)

that is one nice collection of acropora, thumbs up!

Thanks, it's small yet, but I will get a couple more before winter :)

Thanks Sahin! I love the PB too. It's one of my favs :) I've manually removed a lot of algea like that. It came with the LR:(

I'll keep you updated. I actually think this can be better than my old T5 system.

Mounted up the Suharsonoi frag 24th of October.

Blue polyps on the way!

IMG_0911.jpg

The Subglabra lost a lot of tissue a couple of days after I got it. My previous mother colony also did this a couple of times. Have no idea why. Very annoying:headwallblue:

WOOOOOOOW!

I need this one SO BADLY!!!

IMG_0908.jpg

Beautiful photography as usual from you.

Are you still using the Orphek Atlantic and Canon 600D/T3i?

Hehe yeah, the PB was one of the first acros on my list :)

Yeah, I still use the Atlantik and thr EOS600D. I'll post a few more pictures soon.

A. Microclados (not sure, but I hope)frag.

IMG_0979.jpg

Got this frag from a guy who purchased it as an Aussie Echinata. Doesn't look like it, but I helped to unpack the Australia import and know that there was no other corals who had these colors. Bad color on this frag though. But good potential.

IMG_0989.jpg

Here's a frag who has been developing over my expectations. Here it is in April. I appreciate if someone have a suggestion of an ID on this one.

This Acropora has been standing in the shadows for a while. Looked like this in October.

Mounted it on the reef in November and gave it more light.

And looked like this the 8th of November.

Andreas, I cant believe how pretty that pearlberry is...LOL can you tell how much I like it? :lolspin:

This looks close...but not enough branches grown yet to tell structure for 100% certainty. So I hope it is. Its got beautiful colour though.
IMG_0989.jpg

This is one Echinata I picked up about 8-9 days ago...forgot exactly...Mine is colouring up nicely already. I post for your reference.

These two have great potential! And the one one the bottom left, the bright sky blue one looks very nice too. Is that Hawkins Echinata?
IMG_9397.jpg

I give it to you man, you say there isnt much nice SPS in your country...but you got access to the top stuff!

Your photography is excellent even under the LED's which post people seem to find difficult.

Is the rockwork the same as posted earlier or did you add few more rocks and change the rockwork?

Gotta love the PB:beer: The whole colony looked weird. But I hope it's the Aussie Echinata.

Nice piece! Have to look at your thread again. Haven't had much time lately with the baby's and everything going on.

That was (took it out a couple of days ago, started to loose tissue all of a sudden) a Turaki (very similar to Hawkins Echinata (who also actually is a Turaki)).

Well, there are a lot of sps in Norway. But most of it are boring cultivated pieces who I don't find interesting at all. I had a very nice collection before my crash. This time I will concentrate on fewer pieces and only the rarest and unique ones.

Thank you. It's difficult with the leds. Especially top-down, because of the shadow I make that results with poor lighting. The leds are so concentrated and very unlike T5 which produces more light in these situations.

I've changed the aquascape a couple of times. I only have this pictures of it (taken at night). Will provide a better FTS when I get rid of cyano and all the particles and micro bubbles in the water (only a temporary sump).

IMG_0917.jpg

I also have a battle against all the aiptasia. My Chelmon Rostratus is not very effective. Got any suggestions? I've tried to kill them with a needle with 36% pure vinegar. But they pop back up after a few days:deadhorse:

Its a shame about the Turaki tissue loss. Looked very nice and bright too.

The scape looks nice. I think that would looks awesome with selected PRETTY colonies and not so many frags.

As for the Aiptasia, I have dealt with them by covering their holes fully with putty if the hole is fairly small, or smother them completely with kalk paste.

If you cover all of one with kalk paste then it doesnt re-appear. But you need to turn all the pumps off for at least 5 mins and be careful not to burn your coral tissue. The Kalk paste goes hard and forms a crust over the Aiptasia.

The other way is the aiptasia wand...heard good reviews about these. This is probably suitable for you since there are lots in your tank.

Lastly; biological controls:

Berghia Nudibranch. If you can get them in your country. Very successful, but expensive and you will need a quite a few of them.

Shrimps. 50/50% chance if they will eat and if they do, you need to catch them after else they might get a taste for your corals.

Filefish: see this link: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1789369 These are pretty succesful usually.

Hope that helps my friend.

Nice build and love the sps.

Thank you :)

Yeah, the color on the Turaki was very good. Luckily I have a friend with a big colony. I am very pleased with the scape. I plan to have around 20 Acropora Colonies on the scape. The only Montipora I have on the rocks are a Setosa.

Thanks for the feedback :) Good tip about the kalk paste. I'll give that a try. If this doesn't work I'll try to get a hold of a "power wand". Heard good things about these too!

Here's some more pictures from November.

Two new members waiting to get inside. Acanthurus Leucosternon and a Macropharyngodon Bipartitus.
