Oceanic Tech Build for under a G!

get a piece of nice branch rock (not branch, but a loner peice of rock that looks amazing!) and put it in bewteen the two islands.

please mind this, i drew it in two seconds, and its just to give a rough idea of the SHAPE, just so capt has an idea of what im saying. this would also add an enourmous amount of room to put frags and corals in there.

I actually have an AMAZING peice of Tonga Fusion rock. Wild lookin!!! And I tried to make it the center piece and build off of it. Everytime I finished, It looked like someone just poured the rocks in there.

I kept thinking about my 180. Less is more. Let the corals do the talkin. I intentionally left that open interval so I'll wind up with the 2 island look (2 years from now). Maybe bridge them eventually with coral growth and a nice zoo garden at the bottom.

Thanks for the input dan. I think we're on the same page.

Keep the comments comin!!!

Thanks for looking!

Gonna stay bare bottom with it Cully? A GSP floor mat would be kinda wild.

What about another piece or two on one island or the other to make it taller than the next? I like the way it is just throwing a couple ideas out there.

I originally wanted to stay BB, but I'm gonna do a very very SSB at first. I'd love to have a nice Zoo floor mat.

I'm hoping that once I get it stocked with some bigger softies (photosynth gorgs and nepthia), they will fill in the voids on the upper part of the tank. The rest will hopefully be Acans, zoos, rics, yummas etc for color.

Only swimming inhabitants will be some multibanded pipefish.

Who knows, plans change, it's an evolution.

throw a GIANT neon green polyp toadstool AND a GIANT white polyp toadstool in the middle to fill the void between the two rocks. the contrasting colors of the two toadstools would look SICK!!!! just a suggestion though.

i noticed all the corals you listed are softies, except the acans. will the acans get along with all the soft corals you plan on putting in this tank?

I plan on doing Zoos on one side and acans on the other. Is there chemical warfare that goes on behind the scenes/ in the water column I should be wary of?

You'll have to forgive my ignorance. I'm still what I'd call a novice w/ some skills when it comes to SPS. When it comes to LPS and softies my ranking=dip-s**t

idk, but like leathers (sarcophyton etc) do release toxins i think. nad of course, some palythoas are toxic to humans. idk about other coral.

and some acans spew stuff out to kill nearby corals i think. maybe you should ask an expert on the matter though.

oh, and are you basing your tank on millies old 120, or the one they got now?

I haven't been to roch in maybe 6 months. I was talking about the rock work in the in wall 120 (or 150?) that you saw straight in front of you when you walked in the door. Loved that aquascape.

Too hard for me. I frustrate easily :furious:

Nice aquascape, love the 2 island look.

Yes the 120 was taken down and redone completly.

I would run carbon every so often if you are notsure about the chemical warefare goin on just to be safe , can't hurt right?

I like the island idea, the only comment i have would be to try and make it look a little less symmetrical. (although corals should help with that)

Nice looking setup. I'm quite fond of the Oceanic stuff as I'm setting up a 30 myself. Really good find to get that skimmer for 60 bucks too.

had the lights off all day. I don't have the timer hooked up yet. Turned them on tonight. It was TEEEEEAAAAMING with pods!!! So psyched. It's gonna be a pipefish playground.

You guys think the light set up Tek 4x39w T5's in a 25 inch deep tank is gonna be sufficient for zoos?

Thanks

Thanks Gary. I'm really excited about gaining some experience and knowledge with softies and maybe some Acans.

I'm getting alot of algae right now, but lights are new and not on a timer yet. That $60 Tunze skimmer I found in the used bin at CF is a little dynamo!
