How about some updated tank pics from everyone? I'm still waiting for rock to cure among other things, so I need some photos to tide me over.
Any new equipment purchases? I'm about to buy a EuroReef RS80 for my Tech 70g, any opinions?

I went to the LFS yesterday to pickup my 120 tech series and every one of them was built poorly. The glass was not aligned propery and there was silicone everywhere???? I had to switch the tank out for the ultimate since that was the only one that was built right. Has anyone else had this problem?

Also, if I look through the side of the glass on the front it is green? shouldn't it be clear if it's starphire?

The starphire glass has a blue look to it from the edge. If you look through this edge, you can see through to the other side (at least on mine, anyway). I believe the "Ultimate" series has only the Ultra-Clear glass on them.

bulkheads cost about $10 each, so 40 plus tax or shipping for 4 of them. The euro reef skimmers are good, but I heard the 80 and 100 are not that good. How much space are you dedicating to the skimmer?

I got a Bermuda bps3c, and it is awesome and has a small footprint.

Looks interesting. What pump are you using with it? Is it quiet? I do like the small footprint. Is it easy to adjust/dial-in? It says 100-300g's, do you think it might be overkill for a 70 or are you planning to stock quite heavily?

nah, no such thing as overkill. I use a mag 7 and it is super quiet! I was skeptical, but saw it in action and was amazed. And for 350 with pump, it is a great deal.

Nice 120

Nice 120

Nice 120G, it the exact same as mine. I should have took a picture of it before I got it running since it so nice looking.

Good Luck and Enjoy......

I just set up a 70 Tech and I'm very concerned about the build of the stand. If I lean up against it or apply any amount of weight to the front, it sways back and forth...I'm scared of a complete stand malfunction or rock slide. Also, i have a 9 inch long bubble in the front seam behind the silicone....ugh.

Anyone know the exact measurements of the tank? including the trim?

Thanks

Which tank? The 120G is L 48.5"X W 24.5" X H 25"

I was very unhappy with my RS-100. It kept flooding in my sump. I sold it and went with a Tunze 9010 instead.

Is the Tunze 9010 adjustable? I've heard that if i'm keeping zoa's and softies, mushrooms etc, that you can in fact over-skim the water. It's certainly rated for way beyond a 70g.
Is the Tunze quiet? I really need it to be quiet as well as it's in the living room.

Vortechs Installed!

Vortechs Installed!

This week I picked up my sand, which is sitting in the garage, my return pump and two Vortechs with Battery Backup. Today I installed the Vortechs and they were fairly easy to align and configure and I currently have them running master/slave in Lagoon Random Mode.

Who here have built their own stand for their 120g tech tank? Can you post some pictues of your stand? I'm in the process of buying a 120 (tank only) and would like to get some ideas on the stand.

TIA

I am in the process of building my stand for the 120, but so far I only have the base done with the tank on it. I will make the outside skins, sides and front at a later date. You can see a picture of it on my home page by clicking the Little Red House.

Thanks for the link Bud's Reef.

I've been reading about the Tech series and have found out that the front glass is made of "Ultra-Clear starphire". Also, the bottom of the tank is "Non Tempered Glass Bottoms". I though the front and sides were starphire? Am I wrong or did Oceanic change the way they manufacture the tank? I guess I'm just a little disheartened to find out that the tank only has one side made of starphire.

Oh well, I've ordered the tank (black) and should be arriving this week. Can't wait for it to show up.

BTW, any body has the oceanic ultimate tank? if you have both the ultimate and tech series - which of the two do you prefer?

I have had both, I like the tech a little bit better.

I like the black silicon, black backround, and I really like no center brace.

The Tech tank I have has three sides of low iron glass. It was built just over a year ago, before they started with the low iron front only.

I just ordered a 178 gallon Reef Ready - Ultimate Series!! Maybe the Tech tanks are 3 sides Starphire (low iron) and the Ultimate is the front pane only? Either way, its ordered and on the way. Anybody know what the wait time is on these?

There was a lot of discussion regarding the Starfire issue early on in this thread. The original tech tanks were made of low iron, not Starfire, glass on three sides originally, but when the Oceanic line moved to Wisconsin, they started making the tech tanks with Starfire glass on the fronts only. I too was disapointed when I heard this, but ordered anyway and have not regretted the decision.

It works out my tank will be front view only, so the Starphire glass front will work better for my application. So, what's the difference between the Tech tanks and the Ultimate tanks? Size only?
