Octopus "Extreeme" Skimmer Line

Hi,

The ratings on there is from the factory, so good chance they are inflated like most skimmer manufactures, but that 350g one might be a little overkill. I would probably go down a size, unless you think you'll get up to a 125 gallon later.

We do not have any flow rates on them yet, but will post them soon as we get more information.

The ones PA sells versus what's on Marine Solutions look like totally different skimmers. Premium has Octopus Extreme and Marine Solutions is SWC Xtreme. Name's different, but, the skimmers also look much different too. There's no external version to the SWC skimmer, either. And, of course, different pumps. I would venture to say the SWC looks like a better product, and has a much better pump.

Your comparing apples to oranges here man. The swc is better designed and pulls 50scfh at 30ish watts compared to the coralvue that pulls under 10scfh around 40watts. Sure the coralvue skimmer can be modded to pull around 25scfh but the poorly designed bubble plate that extends so far up and restricts the air may make it difficult to skim other then wet, much like the ati, but with much less air. I'll stop now, my apologies PA, as I love you guys. But dang, i wish you all had the swc design!

i made a video of the new skimmer working and i want to know if it is correct (since it brought no instructions only a parts diagram). I see leaking out of the union that intakes the water for the skimmer (right lower side) and it seems its because the hose barb isnt fixed (slides in/out...dont know why). I thought i could fix this by replacing the top half of the union with one that has a female exit and screwing on a hose barb w/ teflon tape. also i need to know if the water level is right and if the water exit from the tee are correct and if so do i cement all the pvc fittings except the open/close pipe...???

There is a lot of rumors and crazy information out there on the USA Extremes and these SWCs and since we only have "he said she said" information, we do not want to comment.

All I can say is the models we have are official "Octopus" brand and the others are not. I wouldn't be surprised if they are made in the same factory in China, but we are treating these as an Octopus brand skimmer and not trying to compare them to anything else. So far as we are concerned, SWC is just another brand like Coralife, EuroReef etc.

I think we'll try and get an SWC and run them side by side to just get an idea on performance. I know a lot of people are posting ratings and info, but these just hit the market this week, so I don't think there is any official unbiased tested information on them yet.

My first thought at there design though, is they look very well built and a nice design, without trying to compare them to anything else. So I'm sure they'll prove to be a nice alternative to some of the more expensive skimmers out there.

So lets see what some of the reviews from customer purchases have to say about these and we'll setup a couple as well and see how they do.

I'd love to just get one of the SWC 160 or 200s and put the Tunze Hydrofoamer pump I have on it, and see how it does...

Newbe here,
What is the difference between the extreme TS150 and PS150? I have a 125 gallon with about 200lbs of LR, wide variety of coral, anemones and fish. Ref/sump is about 25-30 gallons. Will one of these skim enough or should I be looking at a larger skimmer (PS-200)? Lastly, if the 200 is what I need, will they be making and internal version?

Thanks

If you are using plain tap water/RO/DI water, try vinegar to give it a nice clean bath and also it should let you make MUCH finer bubbles than that.. Just an FYI.

Hi Westchester,

The TS150 and PS150 have a different skimmer neck design. The TS150 is much for tampered in, which probably will create a more dry foam, but not sure exactly what there logic was on those two models. We are going to fire up both and see which one works better.

On there ratings, i think that size would work well for a 125g, that's probably in it's uper limits but would work. Going larger never hurts though. They do have a PS200, but we didnt' get any, so I didn't list it online yet. Since they didn't come with this shipment, means probably 6 weeks before the next shipment. It will cost 249.95 if you wanted to wait for those.

Jason, can you chime in on gypsy's last post... That is Sergio's screenname and heres the video

Let us know what we are doing wrong please. I think we got it right but i dont want to cement it without knowing... also the water intake hose barb slides in/out of the union that holds it vertically instead of screwing in so of course it leaks. we cant have any leaking since it will be an external application.

Hi,
Another newbie here. I picked up a 65 gallon tank/stand/sump from a local reefer. He recommended I go with a recirculating gravity fed skimmer (due to operating costs ) and recommended an octopus skimmer. What model would be appropriate for me and what should I expect to be paying for it ? I prefer an in sump as the sump is not drilled.
Thanks
Jejton

Hi,

My Flash is messed up on my computer and I can't view that video. Anyway to sent it as quicktime movie? Can't figure out what is wrong with the flash plug in.

JEJTON:
For your size tank, i think the NW-150 or TS150 or PS150 would be more then enough. Those are all sump only.

YOu could go with a recirculating model as well like the EXT-150, but for your size tank and wanting it insump, i would save the money and go with the other models.

so any reviews of the xtreme skimmers from marinesolutionsinc.com yet?

They don't have them yet. I have one pre-ordered and my status page still says that they're in-transit to them.
