ive just read this 27 page long thread and it took me about a good 2 hours to read.....i have no life=) very nice so far. i hope i can do that one day!!(have a 1000g). when are u getting some more rock??

You had mentioned earlier about maybe still using that table. THROW THAT SUCKER IN THE TRASH! It's not worth your time and trouble to try and straighten it. It would still be really weak after you took the crease out of it.

Keith Yeah! The room and stand look sweet! You did a great job. Where did you get that ozone unit?

fishes2889 I'll order rock sometime in the next few days. I am still working on the various sources to get exactly what I want.

got2lb I definitely understand your point about the table. What I plan to do is build a wooden platform for the water storage tank just above the table in the same position. I straightened the table enough so that I think it will still be usable for a general use area. It's really just meant for when I am cleaning stuff in the sink so it should be OK. If it really bugs me I'll get rid of it. :D

I'm sure with your skill you could construct a 2x4 "frame" betweent the 2 levels of that table for dirt cheap and just reverse the front to the back. Just don't put 600lbs on the top! =p

Done. And it's about 800 lbs. of water...

Good news...the acrylic pipe arrived already so when I am done re-fitting the RO system with a "Weatherson float valve" I will complete the skimmer. :D

Tank parameters are rock solid. Temp. hasn't changed in days. With one lamp on the tank remains at 76.1F continuously without fans or exhaust.

And my Ode To Weatherson:

The man is a genius!!

OK! I now am back in business with RO/DO flowing freely and I have started on the skimmer. I got the riser tube glued in and it turned out really nice. Next are the flanges and collection cup.

One problem I have tried to research but can't find right now is brown algae on the rocks. I had originally thought this was cyanobacteria but the articles I have read on that seem to describe something different.

I have seen the same thing on rocks and sand in aquarium stores and in some pictures on RC. Does anyone know what I am talking about and what to do about it?

yeah I read up on them but got concerned because there is some hair in there too. I think the reason why i got such a rapid bloom is that I placed the rock which had limited lighting while waiting for the tank to finish, into a very brghtly lit environment. I tried to ease into it but I guess it wasn't quite slow enough so I have some very brown rocks now. I see just the beginning of it in the sand as well.

Not much to do about it as I will be getting in more rock soon. Wait and see...

Marc, you already got a call from HOP's wife? Saw that in his thread. My wife doesn't even comment when she comes into the tank room. It's a bit overwhelming I think. This skimmer is turning out really nice. I can't wait to show it off when it's done!

Yes, she opened the gate valve to lower the water level to clean it or feed the tank, instead of just turning off the power to it. I believe we got it all worked out.

Looking forward to the pictures, as always.

well she probably had never spent countless hours adjusting a skimmer! After a monthor two of that you learn just to cut the power. :D
