Got a WEAK response when I announced that my tank is up and running so I can only guess that is because there were no pics! So here are a few....

Well Jonathan, you know what they say... a picture is worth a thousand words.

congratulations!!:D

juststartingout Thanks!

NexDog Haven't ordered the rock yet but I think that will happen by the end of the week.

The R/C Man Well, it took a long time anyway.

asnatlas No pics until tomorrow. Had my first disaster today. While I was out shopping for a new fridge for the kitchen, (the old one cr@pped out last week) the stainless steel table on which I had my 96 gal. RO/DI holding bin buckled. The bin dropped to the floor, clipped the skimmer, and dump all the water. Came home totally exhausted and ready for bed. Checked on the tank and oh momma, not good news! :mad2:

I am so spent from being out today that I only sucked up about 5 shop-vacs full and I'll have to do the rest tomorrow. I'll take a picture of the table when I get a chance. I guess I'll be building another "overkill" platform too!

Yikes! Sorry to hear about the accident. The tank is looking nice. Are you going to be putting anything on the back wall so you can't see the plumbing from the viewing room? Are you going to be using direct connects with the Aquacontroller? I had nightmares with the X-10's. As for something going wrong with the unit, you will have to send it in to Curt for repair and he will send it back. He doesn't off replacements to use while yours is in for repair. Just hope nothing goes wrong with the unit.:) I wouldn't worry too much, I've never really heard of anyone having to send their unit in for repair. I bought a used Pro for my tank and had to send it in for repair. Fortunately, it had to be sent in right when I was starting up the system so it didn't hurt anything. It was also "user error" that it needed to be sent in anyways. I had it connected to my computer and my computer was not grounded. This caused electrical current from my computer to ground out through the Aquacontroller and shorted out some of the circuitry.

Disasters suck.

The bad news is that a new system will have more disasters. The good news is that as the system gets older, the disasters get farther apart. I think that is the definition of experience.

I flooded my refugium when siphon slowed down - added gravity overflow to replace self starting siphon

I flooded my living room - added a float switch to the overflow to kill the pump if overflow backed up

These are just the ones I learned by my mistakes. I have utilized quite a few others that I learned from others experience. Like skimmer in the sump in case of a flood. Skimmer collection cup with built in overflow to keep from draining the sump via the skimmer ( I will make a self killing collection cup one day).

Keep moving forward and learning. That is the journey.

Dale

Travis yeah I have a good idea about the walls of the tank but I don't want to let the cat out of the bag yet. I am using 3 DC4HDs and one DC8 direct connect. I really couldn't get my brain around the X-10 technology. It just really seemed to be the weaker of the two. As far as Neptune is concerned, I have had a good experience so far and expect to in the future. I wish they would redo their manual so that it really was more comprehensive as well as beef up the Aquanotes software.

Aquanotes is really not a good value as far as software goes, but I now it's a niche market etc. and that's the way it goes. If they ramped up the manual they could save a lot of man-hours in technical service. Instead of dealing with technical issues Curt could be building the next generation unit. I am definitely concerned that Neptune will get out-paced in the market very soon.

Dale yeah it was a bummer. I still don't have my emergency pumps set up to draw off a flood, but I am glad the room held most of the water. The force of the impact tore off a piece of the skimmer and blew water all the way into the viewing room by way of the hallway. I haven't done a full damage assessment but I think that was about it other than the plumbing damages. I am glad the RO/DI systems were firmly mounted or they would have been torn off the wall! I am also REALLY glad that Itook care to mount the ballasts off the floor and have zero electrical wires or connections on the floor.

Let me tell you, when I went downstairs and saw the water, I sure had a fright. Tomorrow will not be fun. :(

Looking great! Sorry to hear about the disaster. they happen for sure!

I just wanted to publicly thank you for the Bilgekote recommendation! The stuff is awesome! I did coat the walls with Kilz first and it made a tone of difference. I only needed one coat of Bilgekote.

Anyway thought I'd share one pic.

You can see more in my thread.

Thanks again

I had to chime in here since you should see what happend to me last year regarding a flood. Just check out the first page of my thread (click red house) and check out the disaster. :(

I wish I only had 96 gallons drop, mine was more like 1000.

Keith, that turned out great!!

yeah with my little disaster it was nice to know that I didn't ruin the walls. :D

conda Wow, that was bad. You got 1000 gallons out of your RO system that quickly? Wow, it took me 3 weeks to get that much out of mine! :D

Keith,

I can't find any more shots of the walls in your thread. What page are they on?? BTW, you have some really nice corals!

Jonathan, things were looking up until I read about your flood and skimmer carnage. Hang in there.

You know, had you added all the LR already, you wouldn't have needed so much saltwater. :D

Yeah well, life goes on. This will give me a chance to install a "weatherson float valve" in the RO container too which I might not have done otherwise. I am looking at this stainless table wondering whether I can straighten it out and still use it.

Tank is doing really well though. Crabs are leaving tracks all over the place. I am extremely happy with the temp. issue since it has remained pegged at exactly what it should be. Not needing a chiller is a huge plus and because I have such a large volume of water, temp. swings are greatly minimized. I only have 1600W of heater and it has no problem staying warm enough as well.

That means no need for a heat exchanger, chiller, or whatever and gives me more room to work with in the tank room since I don't need to install a coffin feezer to use as a chiller. I'll get a pic of the table up in the next hour or so.

What happened was one of the hoses popped off and is sprayed water out as fast as my well could supply it. It did that for at least two hours and flooded about 60 sqft of my basement with 3-6" of water.

I'm glad you posted a pic of that table, now I know not to get one of those for my tanks.

BTW, I've been following from the beginning, awesome work! I really love your skimmer.

Thanks for your support guys!

conda OK, now I understand. That would certainly pump a huge amount of water onto the floor.

ThatBTW, is the SS table available at Costco. I bought 2 for the fish room.

An I did another stupid thing today...I put RowaCarbon in a filter sock and didn't realize that it floats! I contained most of it but did have some pellets shoot out into the display. :D
