",...what am I 40? I can't remember. "

Younger than me :)

FTS is just awesome ... you really get a sense of the depth and potential of this tank.

Thanks. Not by any great skill. I'm cheating. When you have 5 feet of depth it's easy to make a tank look big. The real skill is when you have a smaller tank and make it look larger through clever aquascaping. In fact my buddy Rick and I still marvel that I just toosed the rocks in "sunny side up" approximately where I thought they should go. I just used a general idea and asked him for various size rocks to build the reef. NOTHING is glued.

I am in some ways emulating Steve Weast's tank but keeping the rock work lower and a little more open. I really want some "open water" above the reef.

No kidding? LOL...I was searching threads looking for it to copy the properties...what a Maroon! Speaking of maroons, I had my first skipped beat yesterday when it appeared that the BTA was dying. It was totally shriveled up and looked horrible. I pulled its rock up to the surface so I could examine it, and then placed it in an area where I could get at it easier. Then I tried to feed it which did not work. It just released the food.

Before going into a total panic I decided to read up on it and found a web site dedicated to BTAs. There I found out that the BTA was merely trying to relieve itself. I had disturbed it while it was taking a dump!!

While it was in a new location the female maroon stayed in the area/hole where the BTA had been. The male looked around a bit and finally found it. They are stubborn fish! Replacing the BTA & its rock was quite a chore because I had to put it back without damaging the BTA, which was clinging to the underside of the rock. While trying to make room, the female maroon made several agressive charges trying to bite my hand. A liitle bit of roulette later and it was all back in place and everyone is happy.

Stop laughing Marc!! I finally listened to the first podcast and I enjoyed it. I also checked out the fish food video which was a gas...love that tight Tee! Anyway, I got the impression you just throw in about anything you have on hand, and while that seems haphazard, the reality is that animals need a variety of foods and will not thrive if you just feed them the same thing all the time. Since I have a store that sells bait, I am looking into getting small bait fish to use but I really appreciate your suggestion to get smelt from an Asian food store. That makes a lot of sense! I have a hard time feeding my fish dried food because I feel it is just not adequate and I don't really know what it is. When I see "meal" on the label I get a bit nervous.

I recently paid $20 for a pound of silversides and believe me that will never happen again! The BTA seems quite happy to eat shrimp pieces so I am finding that items we eat are perfectly OK for them too.

asatnus-thanks

I feed my big fish norweign sardines

Try cloth with kevlar gloves, most fish teeth won't go through

jna-with the BTA poo in the water, you should get some white paint for your ceiling

I think that would be like spray painting over graphiti...as soon as it dries more poo will appear!

I have the extra long rubber gloves but I was just glad that it was being defensive. That is a sign of normal behavior. (I assume)

shouldn't it be....

you're

nope it is short for you are. the apostrophe replaces the a

Sorry I had a typo... I was referring to the you're Welcome vs the you're Welcome to RC hehe...

Cool, my thread has finally been taken over by nuts. That only happens to the Great Ones right?

BTW, witnessed another interesting maroon behavior yesterday. After I had replace the BTA and its rock, the female went temporarily berserk and ripped out some macro. She would bite off a branch, show it to me, and spit it out away from her area. I think she was really upset!

Question for the Pros:

I am getting a 2 degree change in water temp. as well as .20 change in pH each day. I am concerned that this may be too much of a swing. Any comments on this?

gkarshens Hey I was just kidding. My humor doesn't play well in writing and believe me I have hijacked many a thread myself! :D No appology neccessary!!
