one month after the upgrade to an 850gal reef

Steve, are those Heniochus pretty reef safe? After I watched a pair of H. acuminatus absolutely ravage some corals in a friend's tank...that little group would be making me nervous. Then again, I don't know much about that species in particular.

Skysdale. .... This species out of Hawaii is reef safe. They are schoolers and open water plankton feeders. They stay together and wait for something to float by...they don't even pick at rock.

steveweast, i noticed that you had to resize/lower the quality of the images and misses a lot of details we cant see since RC only limits you 50k. Would you mind sending me the better quality pics to my home email? My home email is eanzaldua@houston.rr.com

THANKS!

ok, i just realized you posted pics of the back!! Wow! I finally understand when you meant sliding the lights out of the way. That looks awesome!! Thats another benefit of having a tank in the garage! ;) I think I need a bigger garage now. ;) Truly an inspiration. Your tank has always been my favorite since day 1. Its clean, its colorful, its creative, and its HUGE! What more can you ask for?

Just when you thought the "next level" of this hobby would be.....uh, ...would be.... uh. What do you say?

Simply Phenomenal!!!
Great work Steve

As an Engineer who owns a tank, I'd have to say that being able to basically set such a large tank on the ground (i.e. positioned so that you only have to bend over to reach in when you work on it) is a great move!!

Very, very, nice tank...and setup!!

hey steveweast,
just wondering if you have any pics of your tank looking at it from the room that it is in. id love to see how it looks in the wall.

Whatever were you thinking?

Whatever were you thinking?

What possesed you to get a dinky 500 gallon tank in the first place?

Awesome aquarium.

i would surely like to see a website for this tank...all the equipment is very nice to see (even though i can only figure out what half of it is).... surely TOM quality or even TOY. how strong is the eggcrate u ahve the rocks on? i noticed mine seems brittle and was worried the rocks would crush it.... do u have any diagrams of the plumbing or anything? and what do u use to keep the sand clean or plan on using....thanx very much and WOW that is freakin awesome... you got all the cool fish and corals IN ONE!

steve, you are the MAN! your slice of the ocean is stunning and even had my wife and kids admiring pics of it! simply astonishing and so natural looking.

Umm, is it just me or is that garage ridiculously clean. Not to mention huge. Why does your garage look nicer than my family room? And by the way, it goes without saying that your tank is ridiculously amazing.

Tank of the YEAR for sure!!

Dont forget to check out the detailed pic here. I put it under a different thread so the people who have already seen this thread will see the new pic if they dotn come back to this one. I will post it here also:

Wow steveweast, you have done one magnificent job on thank tank. It literally looks like a reef in the ocean, my wife also agrees:) Just for kicks, how much do you have invested? Any pics of the plumbing?

Thanks again all....

Godlyme.....eggcrate can be pretty brittle. I use the closed loop piping as the structure to support the eggcrate. I make sure that the eggcrate doesn't span more than about 5 inches without support.

Labrat31....there are some plumbing pics on page 3. Since this was an upgrade and I reused all the equipment, the total cost is an elusive number. But, the upgrade was in $6K-7K range.
